  2. MC,
Just remember that, no matter what happens, you are in God's hands. Nothing will happen that the Lord does not will to happen. You will be okay. You have all of us praying for you and sending all of our thoughts and love to you. Everything will be okay. No matter how bad things look, it will be okay. The Lord will bless you and keep you and carry you through this.

    *hugs*

  3. Mollycat, you must be so scared. I'm lighting a candle for you to bring you strength and good health. http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=TDK

You most definitely need an advocate. I assume you live alone since you said you'll need someone to watch the kitties while you are in hospital. Do you belong to a religious fellowship? Many of them have resources.

How about someone from your work who may have retired recently? Is your company big enough to have an HR department? If so, they may have some suggestions. Or maybe there's someone there who works part time.

Ask your doctor's office as well. Maybe not the doctor - it sounds like she is pretty busy - but her office staff or nurse might know someone. Some bigger nursing homes and/or hospitals with rehab units may have a list of people who transport patients and advocate for them. It's worth a phone call or two.

Do you have family elsewhere? Or would you be comfortable with one of us getting involved? Even if someone couldn't be physically with you when you go to doctors appointments, if you have a cell phone you can put on speaker phone, at least someone can be a second set of ears for you.

If you aren't comfortable with the specialist she sends you to, ask for a second opinion. Brian surgery is not as dangerous as it use to be, but it's still a pretty scary thing, especially when we are talking about a special person and not just in general.

Call your vet and explain that you would prefer to have your kitties home with you as you get through this. Perhaps one of the employees pet sits. Maybe you will really luck out and someone there will be a part timer. Then you might get a petsitter as well as someone to go to your appointments with you.

  4. Speechless on this end.....
First of all MC.I am SOOOO proud of you, as you should be of yourself.
I guess this is why this doc was not as alarmed by your symptoms as I was...
I really agree with CBM, is there someone who can be with you in person through all of this. Of course you are afarid, that is 10000% normal, but sometimes when we are afraid, we cannot make the best choices for ourselves and ask all the right questions.
For eample if you need surgery, well, this is not a community hospital kind of surgery. I really urge you to go to one of the major teaching hospitals in Chicago. I know this is a huge burden for you during this difficult time, but I have no doubt that you will be fine in the right competent hands. Do we have any local medical TDk people in Chicago. f not, maybe a personal friend, family, colleague can help you research this ASAP. If not, honestly as a last resort I would just show up in the ER to the most renowned Chicago hospitel. I am hoping that none of this will be necessary and that this doc who, I'm sorry, who dropped the ball already will refer you to such a place.
You are in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs

  5. MC - I am pretty sure you have checked many of these resourses in the past but it might be worth another look. Maybe there's someone close by whose been through what you are about to go through and could help out. A couple of these websites have online support groups - ask them if they have any suggestions for an advocate. There are places where you can hire an advocate, but they aren't cheap and mostly they fight the insurance companies for you.

I wish I was closer to Chicago. I would be glad to go to appointments with you if we lived closer.

  9. MC,

I just left a message on your answering machine. When you are feeling up to it give me a call and we can talk about Wilma and Betty having a mini vacation here with us. Not sure what time frame you were looking at but I am sure we can try to figure something out. Just give me a call or send me an email, you have both of them already. Hang in there.

    Much Love,

  11. MC, I had to check in and see how your appointment went. Good for you, sticking up for yourself! I know this situation is very scary for you. Just keep thinking of the positive results that may be out there for you - no more headaches! I wish I lived closer too. Somehow I don't think Betty and Wilma would appreciate a 3+ hour drive and then having to put up with my girls! I know that some of the staff at my vet's office do pet sitting on the side so you should check that out.

Make sure that you are comfortable with the specialist - that you get your questions answered, and they explain everything really well. Not knowing is very stressful. I will be keeping you in my prayers and will also include you in my small group prayer circle.

  21. MC,I wish I could be there in person to advocate for you, you're doing great speaking up for yourself though I'm very proud of you.
I so agree with Tigerlilly as to getting in one of the major hospitals like a teaching hospital, there are many good ones in that area. I know it made all the difference in the world when I broke my back,I injured it severely and they took me to a local community hospital, they told me that I only had a compression fracture and they just put me in a room on the floor,as I started to have tingling and numbness ascending my legs their treatment was to put stockings on me instead of finding out what was wrong. I called a doctor that I trusted and he told me to have myself transferred to University of Miami Jackson Memorial and they did and started treating me immediately for what was a burst vertebrae with spinal fragments in my cord space,I could have easily been paralyzed from the waist down. The medical and nursing treatment there was topnotch and I had a very successful operation and recovery.
So see what the neurosurgeon says and where she operates and don't be afraid to ask how many of these operations she has done, and if at any time your symptoms worsen either call ems or get yourself to a large teaching hospital. A lot of times if you tell EMS if you have something that really needs to be treated at a large teaching hospital they will transfer you there as long as you're stable.
Please know that we're here for you, praying for you and have placed you in God's hands.

  24. Mollycat I read your post and dropped to my knees in prayer!! I am so glad you had the inner strength to set the doctor straight and make her see that you were in need of real help. I will remain in prayer for you along with the rest of your TDK family. And although this my be a long and tough road, you are not alone, ever!!! MC...I looked and I don't have your email address could you please send it to me at 2bpurring at gmail dot com.

  27. I wish that I could find a way to transport myself there in time for your appointment, MollyCat! I need that Star Trek thingie!!! :-( We will all be so anxious until we hear what you learn today.

You should just take the rest of the day off today and not try to go to work. You are under too much stress and it wouldn't hurt to rest with Wilma and Betty.

Is your mom anywhere near by? It just kills me to think that there's no one there with you! Did you talk to DaisyMew?
