Gosh, I wish that one of us lived close to MC. I can hardly stand to think of her being alone.
I wonder when we will hear? *chew nails and pops another Tums*

how long does an MRI take?
Posted 11 months ago by cricketsmama #

CM, probably 45 min to an hour. It sort of depends on how big of an area they are looking at.

It tears me up that she is all alone. This is something you need a friend or someone with you.

Yesterday MC mentioned that the doctor (finally) said that she needed the MRI today. So I think that she went to her appointment prepared for that. She absolutely needs to have that done so that they can get a good look at what is happening. What scares me is what the MRI might show.
Yes, it is heartbreaking that she is alone. I hope that she knows we are there holding her hand.

It is better to have the MRI so they know how to help her. I wouldn't want them to give her a treatment that would do more harm than good. {{{HUGS and Prayers for MC}}}

I gather she has no family in the area?
If, God forbid , she needs to be hospitalized, what about her kitties? Does anyone know?
I think I know what the MrI will show...I hope I am comletely wrong on this one.

Hi, all. I think DM offered to possibly foster MC's cats if she is hospitalized. I don't know if they actually made that connection. MC's original idea was to board the cats at the vet's office.
This waiting is hard. I think MC knows that we are with her in all ways except being physically with her. :)

Why is nothing EVER EASY????? I had my frankenstein testing of my brain waves at the Neuro's office. She was unbelievably pleasant I almost forgot yesterday. She then proceeded to say they were doing an EMG as well. This measures electrical activity in your muscle fibers. It involves sticking needles into the individuals muscles one by one in my left leg and shooting electricity through them. She had a student with and had me tell my story to the student. As I was talking I felt a pain shoot thru my leg and my foot cramped and "clawed up". The neuro says "OK, I really need you to cooperate here Amy, please stop your demonstration with your leg for the student" Telling her I wasn't in control of my leg and it was doing it all on its own almost made her teeth fall out of her mouth. She asked me to try to relax my foot, I couldn't. She asked if that was what happens when my foot does its "thing" and I said "yes". She was stunned. Didn't know what to say. She starts telling her student all these things to her student to write down, only she KNOWS I know neurology and know EXACTLY what she is talking about. She is talking about an "involuntary dystonia" in my left foot and leg. When she finishes she tells me that test is normal which means the problem does not lie within the leg itself and is most likely in the brain itself. YAY! She then proceeds to start cleaning all the blood off my leg from poking me and asks if the neurosurgeon had called me yet. I gulped and said "What?" She apparently talked with her collegues at length about me and they reviewed my MRI from my broken neck and back last year. The neurosurgeon was shocked that "A CM this large has gone unnoticed for so long". She said in the scope of things my CM A YEAR AGO was SIZABLE! A YEAR AGO! THEY KNEW THIS A YEAR AGO! She then went on about how they had decided to bump up the MRI to STAT & my insurance agreed. I was complimented on being such an advocate for myself and she is so glad I spoke up, that this may answer "so many questions". I was then whisked to the hospital to have the MRI with and without contrast. The MRI without contrast was a breeze except for the jack hammer pounding noise and me wanting to vomit as I already had a headache. Then came the contrast. The girl could not get the IV in. She called her dumb and dumber co-worker to try, no luck. Having been stuck 6 times I asked "Isn't there a NURSE in this hospital?" They paged a nurse from Cardiac Intensive Care to start the IV. She comes in and ties me up with the tourniquet and starts slapping my arms. Two times she tries and blows my veins. So she moves to my other arm. She is on one side and the girl is on the other. I just lose it. My lips start quivering and the tears start to roll down my cheek. They are putting tourniquets on both arms, slapping my arms for veins to pop out and YES ITS TRUE. I started picturing everybody's cats from their avatar's in my head to try to make my mind go else where. Thank your kits from me. Then she says "I got in!" my wrist. Then she pushes in the needle and blows right thru the vein. Then the gusher starts, I start bawling. She says "Are you ok?" "OK? ARE YOU SERIOUS? I AM STRAPPED TO A TABLE, AM IN A TUBE, HAVE A TOWEL WRAPPED AROUND MY FACE, MY HEAD IN A CAGE, AND HAVE BEEN STUCK 9 TIMES! F*&% NO! I AM NOT OK!" They decided to stop the study at that point. They set me up and I start full body sobbing uncontrollably. The poor rad tech has no idea what to do. The nurse (a nice heavy set older African American lady) comes over and says "somebody needs a big hug don't they?" That's when I lost it and it all came out. She said she totally understood why I was so upset with all I was going through. She sat with me a while until I calmed down. She then walked me out. I should get the results in 3 business days. As for family support, my family is VERY TOXIC, that is why I left them. I can't be around them. I haven't even said a word to them as my mom will say "Is this ANOTHER youngest child pitiful cry for attention?" Oh PUH-LEEZ mom! When the ER called her in 2003 (they had her paged at WalMart) to tell her I was dying and they were doing emergency surgery and had a less than 10% chance of living. She said, "you had to do something didn't you?" Life isn't ALWAYS ABOUT YOU AMY! My surgery in 2003 was due to a birth defect due to HER having her appendix burst when she was pregnant with me! Hello?!?!? This is also a birth defect and IS INHERITED, someone either my mom, dad, or their parents HAD TO HAVE THIS CONDITION. I didn't ask for it, I don't want it, but I got it. I have to be there for me, family or not. As for B&W they don't travel so going to DM's would be awesome but they barely come out for me! I can't even pick them up myself. Sorry I am rambling and i know there are peeps worried about me. I love you guys! Thank you!

Take a deep breath, sweetie. You've had quite a day!
Please call your employer and explain what is going on to the extent you know and that you will likely need to take a medical leave of absence. What did your doctor say about working for the next three days? I think you should stay home and figure out your plans if you are going to be having surgery. Can you get your kitties to a place that boards cats? Do you have ANY neighbor that might be willing to help you by feeding them and cleaning their litter boxes if you are not available to do this?
I can't begin to describe what I think about your primary neurosurgeon or your family so I won't try. You deserve the best of care. Insist that you get it. You are a wonderful, strong woman with a big health issue on your plate. You have the backing of hundreds of people here on TDK. Please let us know how we can help you. You are in my prayers!
