  2. MC, I am so sorry you feel so bad! Many years ago I worked for Blue Cross, and it made me sick the things we were forced to do. Glad I never have to do there dirty work again. If you get really bad, can't they term it "emergency" and just DO it? Let them fight the insurance after wards! BTW, it takes persistence, but if you go thru all the million steps required to protest action on a claim, about 95% of the time you will win. They just try to out wait you,and hope that being sick you won't have the energy to fight them, but if you can manage it, or have an advocate, you will usually win. (I trained contract analysts, so this is insider trade secrets!) ;-)

  5. Amy, my friend who works in insurance said you need to call the Department of Insurance in Illinois and file a complaint. Apparently finding out that the DOI is getting involved is a huge motivating factor to get them moving.

  6. OOOOh, do that!!!

Posted 3 years ago by GreatDane #

  7. MC I had to do what KYKAT said. When I made the contact to file the complaint and then told insurance and the hospital I was filing the complaint things moved rapidly. Don't hesitate to make the call. The sooner the surgery the closer to freedom of pain.

  8. MC how are you? i am just getting caught up on reading the threads now. i am sorry you had a awful weekend. i hope you hear soon about your surgery be moved up? have you tried popsickles or gatoraid, even pedilyte would keep your electrolytes balanced. banana popsickles are the best for nausea they are light and hydrating and soothing.

have they ordered anything for nausea for you? please keep me posted, you know how lydia worries...

  9. Who would I fight? I have BCBS of Oregon and not Illinois. BCBS in Illinois doesn't have me on record anywhere. One time I got stuck with a bill for $10,000 that BCBS wouldn't pay because they sent it to Illinois. I reminded them that I was of Oregon and they said "we know that". When they resent it, it was promptly paid. I HATE INSURANCE! I am feeling a little better today, the headache and n/v isn't as intense but still there. Had a few crackers and they are churning around down there. I hope they stay down in my belly! My boss has me going all over tim buck two today and I just don't have the energy to do it. I told her I am not sure that I can, she said they really need me. I need me too! :(

  10. Oh Moll, I am so sorry to hear that you are suffering with the nausea and headaches! It just isn't right about your insurance. It makes me SOOOOOO mad!!!!! They don't care and they aren't there when a person needs them...insurance is great if you are a healthy person and never have to use it! I hope you can have a better day today!

  15. Who can I call and what can I do?

Posted 3 years ago by Emma #

  16. My friend who works in insurance called and she said you should call the DOI of the state where you live with a follow up to the DOI in Oregon. State mandates on insurance apply to state residents regardless of where your insurance is out of.

  19. Get the letters of complaint flyng, MC. As well as sending the letters to DOI, send copies to everyone involved so that they know you are complaining. Whenever I have to complain I also say that if I don't get a satisfactory result I will send copies of all my correspondance to the local and national newspapers as well as the consumer TV programmes and in the UK we have a Consumers' Association which has a lot of clout and I send copies to them too.

  20. MC, Outrageous! Would the Dr's consider performing the surgery on an "emergency" basis? I know that BCBS can't turn you down if it is an emergency. I will be thinking about you and praying. Please keep your spirits up. We are all want to to feel better! Lots of hugs on the way to you.

  23. Steroids OK especially if helpful, but please don't develop Arnie's accent. We've been listening to it for almost eight years and still no one understands what he's saying.

  29. Have you seen the neurologist yet? What did he say?

    Posted 3 years ago by Pollys_Mum_in_UK_2605 #

  30. Oh wow, what a crazy day! I read all the posts and I feel terribly "guilty" even bringing any attention to me. Here all these people are in such agonizing pain because of their loss and me, I am alive. I almost feel like sending all the prayers that come my way to them, they deserve them so much more than me. I started my day off right, got a speeding ticket! AARGH! At least it wasn't just me, the police swooped in and got 5 of us at the same time. I told the officer "thank you" when he handed me my ticket and he said "thank you?" I said yes, my mom always taught me to be curtious. Then he told me I could go to court on May 13th to fight the ticket. I said I wouldn't be doing that because I was having brain surgery. Then I think he thought I was being a smarta**. I saw the neurologist, the original one who screwed up today. She sure was ready for me. She had results of all the MRI's I have had since I first starting seeing her. MRI dated 2004 showed "minimal cerebellar tonsil desention into the spinal cord". Then last year a "large Chiari Malformation" and now "significant Chiari Malformation with neurological effects and possible strangulation of the spinal cord". Wow, it was nice to see she didn't totall f+*& up, that it hasn't always been so big. She was surprised they are going in to do surgery and was surprised I agreed so readily to the surgery. I told her that he thought she had me way overdrugged and she said "well if it is a CM that is causing your headaches, all the medicine in the world will not help a herniating cerebellum, that's true" she agreed to work with him, under HIS GUIDANCE and follow his direction on what to do with my condition. she did admit she is no longer "in charge" of my neurological health. so, it was more a "told you so" for me to her! GOSH, THAT FELT GOOD! LOL
