   Hello everyone…The day has finally arrived!
   Welcome to the first TDK Book Club discussion thread. Hopefully this will work out like everyone expected but the great thing is we can learn from this one and make whatever changes in the future. As someone suggested I think with each set of questions I will start a new thread so that it might help keep down confusion and those who come on later will be able to express their views for that specific set of questions. I looked on the internet for book club discussion questions and guidelines. They basically had the same questions. There is a total set of 16 questions for the discussion. Since all of us our cat lovers…I can’t imagine anyone not loving Dewey…The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World. I know he defiantly touched my heart. I cried for 2 days after reading the book. Dewey was a very special cat who leads an amazing life and I am so glad that I was able to read his story. Now for the fun part! Let the discussion begin. I posted 3 questions for now to get us started. I will add the others thru out the day.

   **Note: Just a reminder…we start our new book today for April. It is The Serpent’s Tale by Ariana Franklin. Soxsmom will be the moderator for this book discussion starting on May 1st.

   1. What do you think of Dewey Readmore Books? Was he a special cat because of his personality, his circumstances, or both?

   I fell in love with Dewey the moment he was discovered in the book deposit box. My personal belief is that a cat makes a house a home, so I believe his personality made him special, which in turn, made the library a special place.

   I think Dewey was special because of his personality, and I think he was a "gift" from God to the library. His personality made him special, but his survival story made him precious.

   I LOVED Dewey Readmore Books! I think Dewey's personality played the biggest part in his success. Some cats just love to be around people..like Dewey did.
   But one has to consider that the fact he started out at an early age being around people and that had to help make his personality what it was. He was socialized at such an early age.

   I believe he was put there for a reason. Dewey was needed not just by one librarian, but the whole town. All cats have unique personalities, but Dewey was what he needed to be for the whole town. Different things heal different wounds in a town. Dewey healed and helped one very special lady and a whole town. He had the personality needed for the circumstances.

   I adored this book! Not only because it was the story of a very special kitty, but because it is the story of survival.

   I think that Dewey was special because of his personality and because of the circumstances. Had he been a "Windi" like my little girl, he might have bonded with Vicki, but been too shy or afraid to interact with the patrons at the library. But instead, he seemed to intuitively know what each person needed.

   Most importantly, Dewey himself was the catalyst for the town of Spencer to begin to heal.

   I agree that Dewey had the right personality at the right time. It is pretty rare to find a cat with his traits - for example, my Jerrie was a real people cat, and always greeted everyone, but he hated to sit in laps. I'm a person who believes that everything happens for a reason, and I think Dewey was sent because the people of Spencer needed him - and he was the right cat for the job. He probably would have still had a great personality even if he just went to live with one person, but that was not his purpose.

   I haven't finished the book...been busy & blue...but,try I will. Altho I agree with all of you above, I fell for the fact that poor little Dewey had no idea what was going on when he was put in the drop box. He only lay there in suffer. And when he was discovered,I got an qverwhelming rush as tho it were me that found him. He was mine to love.

    Sorry I'm really late and can only be here for a short time.
    Wanted to say that I loooved the book. Dewey reminds me of what I truly believe, every life is important and every life is worth saving. What if little baby Dewey had not been saved, think of all that would have been lost, all the lives he touched would have missed out, none of us would have read this book...the loss of one life, as little as it may be , impacts many.
    I confess I started crying shortly after I started the book, realizing that he must no longer be with us once I realized what year this had taken place. I finished the book while having my hair done, it was not easy pretending my allergies were acting out!

    I think it was a bit of both that made him so special, although all cats are special of course. Certainly he was lucky, and so was the library, that they matched so well - a highly social cat in a place where lots of people went through.

    I was frustrated to not be able to access the internet today for the longest time. I wonder if it had something to do with April fools? Most cats have interesting if not delightful personalities but Dewey seemed to be blessed to have the right personality for the job. He was a good fit.

    I loved the Dewey book and read it some time ago. I was so thrilled to read that this was the book that was chosen for the first book club. I think of "Its a Wonderful Life" when I think of Dewey. Think of how everyone's life, Dewey's included, would have been different if he weren't "dropped" in the depository. There is a reason for EVERYTHING, we just may not know it at the time.

    Dewey was a very special cat, and he was in the right place at the right time!

    Sorry I'm catching up with this discussion so late, but I have been doing online tech support with HP for my Dad's 'puter since 10 AM today; right now I am waiting for a call back from the 'senior' tech support person ~ (I am calling this person 'super tech', hoping we can fix Dad's 'puter problems)
    Will catch up with the rest of the discussion as time permits...

    I personally believe it is both...with out the library he would never had the access to people like he did there but without a great personality no one would have wanted him around. You just can't turn down a cat who has the whole package...
