  1. How do you think the circumstances of Vicki's life affected her relationship with Dewey? How do you think the circumstances of Dewey's life-particularly his night in the book drop box-affected his relationship with Vicki?

  2. Well as she said, she was his Mum. And I think that stayed constant, but I think that both altered their relationship to what the other needed, possibly subconsciously, as things happened and changed in their lives. Perhaps as a result of the initial abandonment, and fear, he felt, he was especially appreciative of the safety and love.

  3. I think Vicki related to Dewey--kind of in a "lost, lonely kitten" way. I can't help but think that Dewey was grateful to be rescued from the freezing cold drop box and that Vicki would always be special to him because of it.

  4. ... I think they were each forced to make a decision - should I trust this soul (person/cat) or not?.... I Dewey fought so hard that night to survive, but then he had to trust Vicki to save him, or die.... Vicki fought many battles, health, a divorce, etc. and she "trusted" Dewey to love her and inspire her to keep fighting, or she might have given up.... they both needed the other.

  5. Vicki needed someone to "belong to" very badly when Dewey came. Although she had been so close to her daughter when her daughter was young, they were drifting apart. Having grown up on a farm, you wouldn't really expect her to immediately bond with Dewey the way that she did. But I think that her need to love and have someone love her unconditionally forged that bond.

Dewey knew from the moment of that first warm bath, that he had found a his angel. He would certainly have died had he not been rescued from that freezing box when she reached in and got Dewey. Like all animals, he knew that, I believe.

  6. Vicki needed love. Who knew it would come in a drop box? As for Dewey, he needed love and a purpose and that came from the woman that reached in that bitter cold morning and released him from a metal coffin.

  8. I think Vicki would have kept Dewey, regardless of whether he became the 'library cat'. If the library couldn't be his home, he would have lived at her home. They were bonded from the time he came out of the drop box that morning.

  9. I think she incorporated her life story as it pertained to Dewey. I think it was very well done.

  11. I think those two were meant to be together. They both had difficult times and if there was ever a pair meant to be, it was Vicki and Dewey.
