It's so sad that this is going on in the courts instead of the water where it should be decided. The competitions fate may not be sealed yet but the chances aren't good of it returning to it's original form.

That sucks. Americas Cup racing should involve all the best yatchsmen and women in the world, not just a head to head.

Drat but all is not lost yet. Oracle also want it to be a multi country regatta, as it used to be.
Keeping my fingers crossed that the AC once again becomes the wonderful race it was when Sir Peter Blake was involved. Racing in equal boats and the outcome down to experience and great yachtsmanship not who has the most money to spend.
Yay, Red Socks rule! !Posted 2 years ago by Moonshadow_NZ #

Just to explain the red socks commet :) Sir Peter Blake (up there with Sir Edmund Hilary who climbed everest) a great yachtsman and one of NZ's most celebrated citizens. He had a pair of lucky red socks that he would wear in his races. It became a bit of a NZ tradition to wear red socks when the America's cup was on, now a bit of a lost tradition.
Unfortunately Sir Peter Blake was killed by pirates while sailing the Amazon on an environmental mission in 2001. Very missed by all NZers.

You must have money in order to be able to compete as you must have the money to provide the tools to win. It shouldn't be that way but that is how sports has evolved in this world.
The America's Cup was all about a group of sailors and their boats competing via fair race.
This is what I found online about the America's Cup:
The America’s Cup is the most prestigious regatta and match race in the sport of sailing, and the oldest active trophy in international sport, predating the Modern Olympics by 45 years. The sport attracts top sailors and yacht designers because of its long history and prestige. Although the most salient aspect of the regatta is its yacht races, it is also a test of boat design, sail design, fundraising, and management skills. The cup, originally offered as the Royal Yacht Squadron Cup, is now named after the first yacht to win the trophy, the schooner America. The trophy remained in the hands of the New York Yacht Club of the United States from 1852 or 1857 (when the syndicate that won the Cup donated the trophy to the club) until 1983 when the Cup was won by the challenger, Australia II of Australia, ending the longest winning streak in the history of sport. The skipper of Australia II, John Bertrand, was quoted as saying,"This puts yacht racing back on the map."
Since 1970 there have most often been multiple challengers, which vie for the right to sail against the defender in a challenger selection series, and from 1983 until 2007, Louis Vuitton sponsored the Louis Vuitton Cup as a prize for the winner of the series. The America’s Cup is a race between the winner of the challenger selection series and the current holder. If the challenging team wins the cup, the cup’s ownership is transferred from the defender’s yacht club to the winning team’s yacht club.
