I just wanted to share the good news that Mina got her bloodwork done and she is totally healthy and disease free! We're so relieved that we don't have to keep our cats separated anymore.

The vet says that she is about 8 weeks old, and since she is still under a pound, but otherwise healthy, she is probably going to be a very tiny cat!

  4. Good news on little Mina. I just want you to know that I am saving up my money for one of those Canon Rebel cameras. I know much of good photography lies with the photographer, but that camera takes some awsome pictures.

Looks like her eyes are going green, am I right? She is a little beauty.

  9. Hi NNGM,

Mina's eyes seem like they are going to be green or yellow, they are still a little muddy so I'm not sure yet...

The canon rebel with the kit lens is a great semi-pro camera. I'm not a good photographer in any technical terms, but as long as you shoot to raw format you can fix color and exposure in photoshop or other photo-editing programs. The canon g10 and panasonic lumix lx3 are less expensive non-slr cameras that take great photos too. But if you want to get more into photography, the rebel is the best buy out there. Just my 2 cents ;)

I'm lucky that Mina is not at all timid (ever!!) and she thinks the camera is kind of funny. Some people at my job saw her photos and want me to start photographing their pets -- this might be the start of a new career for me :D

  12. For many years I used my trusty Minolta SLR camera. I have a little Canon digital, but I haven't upgraded to the Digital SLR yet. My problem is that I will certainly want to also buy the nice "toys" that go with it! For example, I do alot of landscape photography, so I like a good wide-angle lens. I think the lens kit that comes with the Rebel does not go very wide angle, am I right? Oh well, at this point I am just saving my money up for it anyway.

  13. Treether, that's great news about Mina! And, BTW, she can 'heart my duvet' anytime ;-)

  14. NNGM, I have a sigma 10 mm lens for the rebel, it was quite a bit cheaper than the canon lens, although the canon is supposed to have less distortion. It works great for real estate photography. I know what you mean, once you start getting camera equipment it just never ends... my biggest splurge was a great external flash, it makes such a huge difference.

Of course, if I used 10mm lens on Mina, you wouldn't be able the find her! ;)

  17. *reaches through the wormhole to pick up the cute little Mina for a purry hug... after getting her daily requirement of kitten purrs, she sets the little kitten back where she found her and watches the little purrball scamper off to play*

  18. can a kitten really be THAT CUTE!? Mina is a supercute mini-kitten! I really don't think there is a cuter kitten around (shh! don't tell my girls tho she bears a striking resemblence to my Betty!). I am so THRILLED you got an all clear on her health and she can live happy and healthy with you. What a wonderful job you have done with this special girl! Thank you so much for sharing her with all of us.

  23. THUD!!!

That's fantastic news Treether - so will you be introducing Mina to Vesper now?

Posted 11 months ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #

  24. Mina has to be one of the cutest kittens I have ever seen! She has the most amazing eyes, so bright, she looks like she would be a delight. So glad she passed her physicals! Thank you for keeping us updated, I watch for them.

  25. Thanks, I'm sure as Mina gets a little older, she's not going to be as patient with the camera.

So far Vesper is not too happy about Mina. Whenever Mina comes near she growls and hisses. She also stares her down in the room. We have feliway, which seems like it helps a little (Vesper is spending more time near where it's plugged in).

Mina isn't really fazed by all of this yet, she's very attached to the humans in the house and she would love to be able to get closer to Vesper...

We never really planned to get a kitten because we knew Vesper would react like this, but we tried to explain that it wasn't on purpose to her and hopefully she'll calm down eventually. At least she's not actually attacking Mina.

We still put Mina away at night, so Vesper gets to sleep with us alone. Any tips on how to make this easier would be appreciated!

  26. I've seen people suggest rubbing the new furry family member with an item of clothing you've worn so the resident kitty associates something positive with the newbie. You could also give Vesper a treat every time she moves closer to Mina without hissing.

  27. Thanks kitten whisperer... I put my question in another post. I have been giving Vesper treats when she sees Mina... I'm a little worried she's just learning that she can blackmail me for treats when the kitten is out.

In case anyone looks at this since I'm bumping it, here are my favorite Mina pics from today:
