  1. I am assuming that cats go thru hormonal changes similar to hoomans. I'm hoping this explains the changes in Ashe's disposition toward the rest of my crew. She has become, well rather bitchy, towards them.

She has also started to "demand" more attention from me. Which isn't a problem she is even more a love bug than before.

Any advice to help her with all this is much appreciated.

  2. Uh oh...CCM...does this mean Ashe is possibly preggy? I thought all your furbabies were fixed?

All I can say is every time I hear the words "Pregnant Cat", I run the other direction screaming. lol. I'm so glad I'm finally past that. Knock on Wood.

I hate also to say, that those are symptoms in some cats that are pregnant, but, not all.

  3. Susie..Ashe is the only one who has not been to the "spa". Yep, she was in heat when she escaped back in March. She is definitely showing changes, both bodily and mood wise.

  6. Paulajeanne we are quesstimating anytime the 9th to the 15th of May with the minimum and max gestation figured in.

It is exciting, don't really want kittens but it will be fun anyway. I'm going to try and make a photo record of it all.

  7. Will mark the calendar! Take lots of pictures. I don't think anyone has had kitties born on TDK yet? Will you be able to easily find homes? Love that she is being more demanding of affection!

  8. CCM... I have had some experience with this situation. Whenever I brought Leggs home all she wanted to do was play with Mr. Kitty & Goober. (both fixed)The only times they showed her any attention was to pick on her and start a fight. Leggs got out of the house and went missing for 4 days. During that time she ended up pregnant. I would try to keep her away from Mr. Kitty and Goober so they wouldn't fight with her. Needless to say, that wasn't always possible. Let's just say after she became pregnant... the tables were turned. She intentionally sought both cats out and did do a number on them. She is the smallest of my cats...only about 6 pounds...but she became a fearless little creature. That was 3 years ago and both cats still run from her! Also, if she was being held and felt uncomfortable in her surroundings..she had a tendency to lash out at the person holding her. That stopped after Moe and Calli were born. One more thing...the further along in her pregnancy ...she got even worse! I probably was just like her when I was pregnant!...lol

  9. Thanks ILMC...yep, that's how Ashe, and she is the smallest of the bunch, is treating the other cats, all except Penny, but they have a weird relationship anyway.

Paulajeanne, I don't think I will have a hard time...but if I do they will just have to stay with me...I am the Crazycatman ;D

  11. CCM...In the last stages of her pregnancy she stayed in my bedroom. She seemed to be more comfortable there and also became very attached to me. When she went into labor I fixed her a basket in our bathroom. I had the intentions of leaving her alone...thought she would do better...but she would try to follow me. I sit in the bathroom for 9 hours that day talking and comforting her. This was her one and only litter and you could tell she was scared because she didn't really know what was happening. Moe was born at 6 pm and Calli at 6:30 pm. But it was truly amazing to see how instinct took over and after Moe was born she knew exactly what to do. That was the last thing I wanted was for her to get pregnant but sometimes it happens and I tried to make the best of the situation. I went from 3 cats to 5 in a day and I still have all of them! It is an amazing thing to experience. Sorry for rambling this is more than what you were asking.

  13. I had the lovely experience once of having a litter born in my bed! Was in college, visiting at an aunt's, and their cat BatCat decided to litter that night all nice and cozy in MY bed. She didn't make a sound, but their little mews woke me up. Was enchanted. My sheets were a bit messy though. Think my love affair with cats started that night!

  14. Leggs was my first for a pregnant kitty! I did some research and I remember feeding her Kitten Chow right before she had the babies. Ashe will need the extra protien and it should help her to not get to thin when nursing the babies. I stopped feeding it after they were weaned. I am excited for you and Ashe. Maybe when Ashe goes into labor...Penny will be a comfort to her since they have such a good relationship.
PJ...When Leggs first went into labor...she got in the bed with me. I noticed that she was very, very restless. That was when I decided to relocate her. I'm glad I did!!

  15. PJ...I had several litters born on TDK...I just didn't know where Miss Hissy was hiding them. I know...doesn't count. lol

I must admit tho, that a part of me can't wait to see the pics of the little angel gobbies when they're born.

  17. The two kitties that I had who had litters(one in high school and one about 15 years ago) started looking for places to nest. When they went into labor I could see the contractions on their sides and they were both very much determined not to let me out of their sight. I had to sit with both including the one who had 12(twelve) kittens. Their instincts took over after they started having kittens and the cleaned them and got them to nurse,I had to help the kitty who had 12 though(she was an outside kitty),I has to start helping her clean them off as she got tired and helped her feed them and we didn't lose any.
    I can't wait! :)

  18. Congrats CCM :) While never having a litter of kitties nor dealing with pregnant mama kitty, either she will want you near when she gives birth or she will want a quiet spot like the closet for her babies. I have only dealt with whelping puppies and that was a needy situation with the mom wanting us near her at all times while birthing. Can't wait to see the montage of the newest members of your household.

  22. 20 years ago we had the mama (Missy), papa (Rusty) and they had three kittens (Pixi, Suzi and Friti.) Missy had a textbook pregnancy, in that she followed every step in the book I got to learn about kitty pregnancy. One thing we learned that we hadn't known was that in terms of heirarchy a pregnant female is the top cat, next is a nursing mother, then the oldest female. It was absolutely true in how Missy was treated by our other kitties. Two years ago we took in Mali a week before she delivered six kittens. This was the second litter we have had in our almost 30 years together. For both of them we took a large cardboard box and cut a front door the mama could easily step thru but the babies couldn't until they were several weeks old. That helped her contain her family and we could easily change the towels daily. Although they say kittens can be taken from their mothers at 8 weeks, the mama will nurse until 12 weeks when she pretty much calls it quits. By then the little one can eat solid food and function on their own.

  30. My cat Hester (my daughter was reading The Scarlet Letter) showed up in the yard pregnant (feral, or partly so...). I trapped her pretty easily - she was hungry, and ensconced her in the back bathroom, away from the other cats. She didn't want anything to do with me until the kits were born - 4 of them on the 4th of July! That was in '07, and she has been inside with us ever since. She is still a feisty cat, follows me around like a dog, but will not do any lap sitting. Loves petting, having her belly rubbed but no laps! Her kittens all went to good forever homes, don't worry!
