On April 5, 2008 I drove down to meet Gem. I had heard about her from Siobhan. She was an older kitty whose owner was trying very hard to find a good new home for her. I always have a soft spot for the older kitties anyway, so when I heard about her I decided to give her a chance in my home. It was about an hour drive to her house. As soon as I met her I knew she was special; she let me (a total stranger) scratch her tummy and pick her up. I took her home with me that day. I know she was sad to leave her home of 8 years but she settled in right away. Now it is a year later and she is a part of the family. She and Nibs love to play together, and even though she and Nora still like to hiss and growl at each other it is obvious that they are not really fighting and they do like each other. Mornings would not be the same without Gem following me into the bathroom and sitting on the scale. Evenings would not be the same without Gem and Nibs both trying to "win" the coveted lap spot. People love to come over because they know that if they sit on the couch, they will have Gem to snuggle with as long as they are willing to pet her. I can't imagine not having Gem's "tribble voice" following me around the house.
So, happy anniversary Gem! I'm glad you joined our family.
