cooking.com is having a recipe challenge right now to see what America deep fries! (You can go to the site to submit your recipes!). What is the strangest thing you have deep fried or you have eaten that WAS deep fried? Health aside, what is the yummiest thing you like deep fried? I can't wait to see what the results are! I will get the results emailed when the contest is over.

I've deep fried hot dogs before. They were good, too.
But my favorite thing deep fried is pork chops. Hands down.

My cousin (Valdosta GA) frys everything!...... they always fry turkeys for thanksgiving... but they had us for dinner one time, and were frying fish.... so I went out back with her husband (who is the fry chef) and he and I started playing around with different things... we fried cheese, some vegetables, but my absolute favorites were the fried pickels and olives!...... sounds funny, but actually turned out yummy, and we made a mustard dipping sauce that was out of this world!.....our coating was mixtured of flour & cornmeal, rolled in egg first....

MC they come out all crusty on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. :)
AV, Monique LOVES fried pickles. There's only a couple of places you can get them here, and she knows where ALL of them are.

The last time I had them (a week ago) I took a picture of them with my phone and sent them to my brother to make him jealous. He's a wonderful cook, but even he can't touch me when it comes to deep frying pork chops - lol.

the deep fried snickers isn't too good or for that matter deep fried twinkies are NOT good! I do like deep fried ice cream! YUMMMY, with the crispy crunchy cinnamony crust on the outside and a caramel syrup..........

I love fried pickles with ranch dressing. HM, tell Monique I said HI!!!! I talked to her when I was trying to track you down after the hurricane. AV, try stuffing the olives with a sliver of garlic and cheese and then frying them. Out of this world good!!!!
HM, what do you bread the pork chops with? I pan fry my pork chops, but and willing to give them a deep fry sometime.

I don't bread them with anything. I just season them and drop them in the oil. Nobody ever knows the difference until I tell them.
KYKAT I will tell Monique you said hi. She can't talk - she lost her voice at Wrestlemania last night. She sounds like Miss Jane Pittman when she was 110 years old - lol. I don't know if I could eat a fried pickle, sweetie. And I love pickles. Especially with peppermint sticks stuck in them.

We have really good friends here that only do deep fried turkey. I was skeptical that a turkey could cook in 25 minutes, but it was the best turkey that I have ever eaten.
We deep fry all kinds of vegetables, including green beans. I make a yummy beer batter and they come out with almost a tempura like crunchy coating.

I got rid of my deep fryer some years ago. I don't deep fry anything at all and rarely shallow fry anything.

If anyone needs a good all purpose batter, this one has never failed. It's perfect as is for onion rings. For mushrooms, sweet potatoes, green beans, broccoli, etc., I sometimes add just a bit more beer to thin it a little bit more.
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup beer
1 pinch salt
1 pinch ground black pepperWhisk all ingredients together. Dip whatever you're frying into the batter until completely coated. It's best to have the oil for frying at around 375 degrees.

I don't think we have Fridays here. Or if we do, I don't know where they are. The Black-Eyed Pea has deep fried corn on the cob. My dad used to get it all the time. I guess you can deep fry anything.
