Hi! I feel like everything is coming down around me! My mom is having cataract surgery on Thursday morning at 7:30 am. I know she is scared to death because she HATES anyone near her eyes. Also, my grandpa had the same surgery years ago and the "oopsied" and he wasn't able to see after that very well. I have tried to remind her that technology and surgery has come a LONG way since the 80's. While she is not very supportive of me, she is still my mom and I am concerned about her. I called her today and she was grumpy! Please keep her in your thoughts tomorrow as she goes thru this. I think she will feel better once she gets thru. She has to have the other eye done in 2-4 weeks depending on how this surgery goes. Thanks! (((mom)))

Molly, my Mum went through this last year - she's bi-polar amongst other things, and was terrified about the procedure. They did it (both times) under general, and she was fine. Her sight has improved dramatically, and she now advocates having your eyes done to anyone and everyone! Good luck to your Mum, and hugs to you both.

Gosh, MollyCat - just one more thing, huh? But you were right to reassure your mom that we have advanced so far in cataract surgery. I'm sure that, once it's over, she will be amazed at how simple it was, and how well she zipped through the surgery. I suspect that she will find her vision much improved.

Prayers of strength and peace to your mom, so that she will be able to have this necessary procedure. The fact that you are talking with her is wonderful. I hope that you were able to share with her what you are going through. I know you said that you had cut off from your family, but hopefully this is a door that has opened for you. It would be most helpful if you had some family support as you deal with upcoming neurological surgery.

Mom is 75, so I hope she will be better. I think she will be surprised when she sees how well she can see after the surgery.

Molly, I have an uncle who is at the head of the list of despising hospitals! Retired research and development engineer, never married, brilliant and has glaucoma. He has had 3 operations on his eyes and refuses to be "put under" he does it with a local! Amazing! All will be well. You are great for the support of your mom. Hang in there. I will include all of you in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs to you.

MC.... I just had cataract surgery in Feb... Both eyes...one week apart. I was extremely apprehensive of the whole procedure. Turned out to be a lot of unnecessary stress on my part. Actually, the biggest pain in the.... was the eye drop schedule for the 3 weeks after. It is so amazing how clear and bright everything is now...........tho, I still need to wear glasses most of the time....much to my disappointment. Your mom will be just fine, and will enjoy seeing her surroundings as not being "dirty" and cloudy any more.

((AMY)) Your mom will also be in my prayers. My mom had both eyes done in the 1990's and she was fine. Surgery scares anyone, so it's understandable. I am also glad you reached out to her while she is unnerved and worried. You are a good daughter and I am lucky to call you friend!!!

MC, your mum will be in my thoughts as well -- and YOU will too. My mum, too, has had this surgery done on both eyes, under local anaesthetic, and she too was absolutely fine. It makes a huge difference when it is done and I'm sure your mum will find her quality of life much better when her sight is so much clearer. Hugs to both her and you today!

MC, my Mum has had one eye done and is hoping to get the other done soon. It takes only a matter of minutes. Unfortunately Mums eye hasn't really improved much and that does happen sometimes but that should have been all explained to your Mum. Positive thought for her surgery MC.
