It's a grey day here but reasonably warm, 13C (about 55F). I'm just considering re-planting one last large plant. My back and arms are very sore from shifting the pots yesterday. Can I face it? I suppose I have to. I'll do it when the clock reaches 12.oo (8 mins time!)

If they're not careful they'll end up as a nice pair of furry slippers! ;-)

PM, I used to have really large potted plants, had to give them away when I couldn't change them out any longer.

Old man winter has sent his young son up from Antarctica to give us a taste of what's to come. Some of the N Island had hail and the main highway through the island has a snow warning. KK wasn't pleased to hear that as they are travelling up it tomorrow.

The problem is getting it onto a towel. At the moment it stands on the floor in the corner of the sitting-room. The pot contains a large Monstera delicosa (Swiss Cheese Plant). I've had it for over 20 years, so you can imagine the size of it. A small forklift would be handy, but ........

Hi MC, yes we'll be there with you sitting just behind your right shoulder, so if you feel something there it's just all your littermates here at TDK.

I really ought to re-pot the yucca as well. It stands about 6' tall and again is about 20 years old. I'll have to stop keeping plants so long. It's not that I even look after them properly, I only remember to water them when I see them falling over or their leaves start to go yellow and drop off.

PM, is the monstera the one that is also called the "fruit salad plant". Does it have large soft spikes on it that you can eat pieces like corn kernals from it.

No, it just has large green leaves shaped a bit like a spade (in cards not for digging with!). The leaves have holes or splits in them, hence the name swiss cheese plant. It's a vine type plant, at least mine is, although I think you can cut the centre out to make it bush rather than vine.

It is interesting Deb, some friends grew one for years and suddenly one year it grew the fruiting spike. They had to check a book in the library to find out that it was edible. We all had some, hoping the book was right. We survived thankfully and it was very tasty. Most of the time it just a big green plant in a corner.

Well, well well! It's just a big green plant in the corner. I've had it 20 years and never a flower or a fruit. You learn something new every day.
