  1. Emma's description of the birthday party held on Christmas, with the one day of gentle snow and shiny icicles, was so lovely. What do you think they'll be doing this weekend?

    Emma?

  3. I think our babies will all play in the green grass and easter flowers. I also think they will have their own egg hunt and the eggs will be filled with nip. They will play together and send love and warm wishes to their families they left behind.

  4. yes i think you are right molly cat. an angel guardian for the animals at th bridge is hiding the eggs right now. i bet the kitties are so excited, and there are alot of flowers and green grass to play in.

  5. It's probably the Wolf of Gubbio, special friend of St. Francis, who's hiding the eggs, Beth. According to Emma's stories, he seems to be the one who watches over everyone at the Bridge.

On my way back to my office from the doctor's, I stopped by a craft shop and bought some silk lilies to put on my Katie's grave on Caturday. I wonder what colors of eggs she'll find? Her sister Tiger Lily will help everyone find them; she was a good hunter while she had the opportunity to hunt. (Becoming an indoor-only kitty at age 4 put an end to that.)

  6. ooh yes wolf and gubbio they are on the st francis statue i have for kizzy'a ashes , yes you are right wolf greeted kizzy to the bridge when she first arrived on dec 17th emma said. wolf made kizzy at home, and explained that it was a party for the savior. yes i remmember now. that was a wonderful christmas story emma told us.
i'm sure tigerlilly and kate and kizzy with bastin and the 2 sammies and all the other kitties will find , pink and yellow and blue eggs filled with nip ( MC suggestion) i am sure they are giggling with excitment !! i'm sure katie will love her lilies you bought her. thats a wonderful idea !!

  7. I can imagine my dad is there with all our (probably 20+) kitties that have gone over the bridge. He gets to carry the basket with the eggs that have been hidden. If I know my dad, he is there rubbing bellies and brushing fur for all the kits!

  11. The edge of the morning sun emerges on the far side of the Bridge, and the kits yawn and stretch in the green grass, heads up and alert for the winds.

Jazz and Tex are crouched in the clover beds. It is too early to believe that they would be awake, but they are wide-eyed and watchful, and the Wolf of Gubbio stands on the rise of ground, looking down at all of them.

There seems to be some wild magic in the air, and the young kits stare of strange clouds mounding in the new spring sky.

"What is it?" asks a very young cat. His legs tremble slightly, with such excitement. The grass is the tenderest green today, and the buds on the trees are tiny and misted with color. The air itself is alive with movement.

"Are you frightened, dear one?" says the Wolf softly.

"No, but yes, but no, not frightened!" the young cat stammers.

"Wondering!" says another cat, rubbing his head against the Wolf's great leg.

Suddenly the sky blazes with sunlight, and the wind blows for one strange sweet instant. It is as though all the worlds were being newly created, and time itself is dawning in the sky just past the Bridge.

"We celebrate today the victory over Death," says the Wolf. "I don't understand all of it, but the same Creator who delighted us with a gentle, lovely winter day gives us another day of light, but a different light. It is..." the Wolf pauses, "...as though Death is no more."

"Death is dead. And now we celebrate! Look! Look up!"

Suddenly, the air fills with shining iridescent globes, egg-shaped and incandescent, falling softly. One floats past Kizzy, and she follows it, finding a flower hidden within it. Another egg settles peacefully beneath the great Tree, and Sultie stalks over to examine it more carefully. The scent is so intoxicating!

The laughter of kittens bubbles out of the largest clover bed. Three of them have discovered the same lovely radiant eggs, and they bat at them with soft pink paws.

Norman and Bombalurina chase one of the eggs across the green lawn into a patch of violets, and when Norman pops it, a cloud of color emerges. The morning is filled with the sound of small, happy animals.

Mr. Bug and Bob are playing with the glowing eggs, and Roo lies on his back, bunny-kicking one huge globe of light and purring with delight. Spike is huddled into the grass, eyes wide with excitement and tail lashing, as he springs happily onto a cluster of the lovely eggs. They scatter before him, and Spike rolls laughing into the grass.

Tex examines one pale green egg that seems to have settled on his huge tail. He looks at it, wondering. So pretty! And it is for Tex!

Tigerlilly and Kate and the Sammies scatter among the glowing eggs on the green grass, and they see more bright eggs, like soap bubbles, filling the air. Tessie stares upward and watches one of them descend slowly, resting on her little paws. Shaddo gazes at her, amused and curious, as another rose-colored egg sinks through the air and touches down next to him.

The flowers are sweeter today, the sun warmer, and the Wolf gazes peacefully at the Bridge. A Young Man stands there in the middle of the Bridge, one torn hand on the railing, and He smiles at the Wolf.

"Happy Easter," they whisper to each other. And the sun seems to dance in the blue spring sky.

    Happy Easter!

  24. i read the story of the wolf of Gibbo that was a awesome story. i loved that web site for st francis.

Posted 2 years ago by beth #

  25. That is a lovely story about the wolf, Beth. I'd never heard the entire story before. Somehow, knowing that the wolf was a reformed penitent seems to make it even more appropriate that he watch over those at the Bridge.
