I adopted a kitten yesterday and was told that he is 8 weeks old although he looks slightly smaller than that. I have gotten him to eat some wet food mixed with formula but he wont drink any water. Also he went pee once yesterday but hasnt gone since and his belly feels full but he hasnt pooped at all yet. Could this just be because hes not used to our house yet?

Thanks so much for your warm welcome guys! I havent quite decided on a name yet but my kids are leaning towards einstein because of his hair...its pretty unruly. I dont have any pics yet but he's cream colered with a gray undercoat so he kinda looks dirty,he has dark ears and tail and some pretty crazy hair like I said. kinda looks like hes been electrocuted...I think hes adorable though. Oh and I tried stimilating his bottom with a towel a few times..hasnt worked yet but I'll keep at it. Oh yeah also does anyone have any tips on how you can tell how old he is? He seems small to me so I was wondering how big a 2 month old kitten is sopposed to be. Thanks again guys.

wow, you may want to gently rub his little tummy to stimulate some movement of his bowels. will you be taking him to the vet soon? i know sometimes they offer some home remedies like canned pumpkin but that all depends on his size etc. a two month old kitten I would imagine would be tiny. when I got my girls at 3 months they were each about 2-3lbs. of course they are still extremely tiny. just keep trying the warm washcloth on his bottom and hopefully he will poop. oh, and Einstein, I love it! I have a pix in my head already of what he looks like! i can imagine he is adorable

Hiya. Please keep us updated on how he is getting. When I got my two the lady i got them off told me they where 2 days off 8 wks. I too wasnt sure this was right. They were in fact only 5 weeks old. One thing i did notice was that they didnt have whiskers yet. The vet actually thought they had been cut but they hadnt even grown yet. If Einstein has whiskers then he cant be too far off 8 wks i'd say. Good luck and as i say keep us updated on his progress. Thanks xx

Hi Cherice,he might not have had enough time to acclimate to your house and the change in diet yet,a 2 lb kitten(usually a pound per month)is about the right size for a 2 month kitten in which case stimulating him with a rag isn't really indicated, that's for tiny kittens who aren't with their mom(newborns). The way to get him to go is to give him wet food(kittens can get a lot of their water from this) maybe add a little water to it,see that he eats has a litter box nearby and is hopefully in a small room for now until he gets used to your home. A small room like a bathroom or small bedroom is best with all his goodies in one area, don't place his food close to his little box though. Keep your good observations of him, visit and play with his often and see how he does. If he doesn't start using the litter box sometime today I would be concerned. But most important is he playful and brighteyed? That is the best indication of how well he is doing.

Yea for poop. You'll find that this site revolves around love, kitties and poop. Waiting anxiously for pictures (of your kitten, not the poop).
