Yesterday morning (Easter Sunday), a close friend of mine in the church was found dead on her kitchen floor. She was a member of the handbell choir and the chancel choir. When she didn't arrive for the early service Sunday morning, someone went to check on her and found her. She has at least one son; he's a member of the church, too. It was a horrible shock to hear this announced at the late service. I had just seen her on Friday night after the Good Friday service. She was parked beside me in the church lot. When I got to my car and turned on the radio, the weather service was announcing a tornado warning for my county. I called to her about the warning as she was getting into her car and I was headed back to the building. That was the last time I saw her, the last thing I said to her. Funeral plans are not complete.
When I got to work this morning, I found out that the wife of one of my colleagues was in a car accident on Thursday. She sustained a concussion and broken ribs. My colleague is out helping to take care of her, and my boss and I are working to finish a grant supplement on which my colleague was working that is due Thursday. We'll get it done, it's almost there. The office is sending flowers to the wife.
