More needs for prayer and light

(31 posts)
  1. Yesterday morning (Easter Sunday), a close friend of mine in the church was found dead on her kitchen floor. She was a member of the handbell choir and the chancel choir. When she didn't arrive for the early service Sunday morning, someone went to check on her and found her. She has at least one son; he's a member of the church, too. It was a horrible shock to hear this announced at the late service. I had just seen her on Friday night after the Good Friday service. She was parked beside me in the church lot. When I got to my car and turned on the radio, the weather service was announcing a tornado warning for my county. I called to her about the warning as she was getting into her car and I was headed back to the building. That was the last time I saw her, the last thing I said to her. Funeral plans are not complete.

    When I got to work this morning, I found out that the wife of one of my colleagues was in a car accident on Thursday. She sustained a concussion and broken ribs. My colleague is out helping to take care of her, and my boss and I are working to finish a grant supplement on which my colleague was working that is due Thursday. We'll get it done, it's almost there. The office is sending flowers to the wife.

  3. I am so sorry to hear of your friend's death. My prayers are with you and her family during this time of grief. Prayers are with your church family as well--I am sure this is causing pain in many. May all those in the choir feel the peace and comfort of God's grace at the loss of someone so talented, a gift from God.

    Prayers also for your coworkers wife that she might feel the healing presents of the Lord as she mends her body.

    Peace be with you Leeny.

  4. Beth, I believe the lady was in her 70s; the short death announcement on the newspaper's website didn't give her age, but she was at least that old. The lady who was in the car accident is doing all right. When she is able to get up and move around more (important in preventing blood clots), they'll be able to let her go home from the hospital.

    Soxsmom, it is hard on the church. Of course one wants to comfort the biological family members, but it becomes more difficult to do that when you're hurting so much yourself. One lady in the choir had her eyes closed for most of the late service; another just stared straight ahead, glassy-eyed.

    The lady from the church loved birds; in her retirement, she traveled all over the world to go bird watching. I hope she's stopped by the Bridge and visited the birds there. They'll perch on her arms and hands and sing to her now; she won't just have to look at them from a distance.

  5. Leeny, what a beautiful image of your friend. Not only is she visiting with the birds now, she can sing to them with the voice of angels.

  12. Leeny, it seems that many wonderful people went "Home" this Easter. We lost a dear lady from our church choir on Easter too, but it was not a surprise like your friend's passing. How is your co-worker's wife doing?

  16. Co-worker's wife may be still in hospital or may be at home. The last I heard, around 2 hours ago, was that he was waiting for a call. Hospital personnel want to make sure she can breathe deeply enough to be well oxygenated before they release her.

  17. I'm sorry Leeny to hear so much sadness is surrounding you right now. I hope you can feel my prayers and positive energy. I think it's wonderful that you and the boss are covering so well for your co-worker.{{{Leeny}}}

  19. Went over my finances today. For the next two weeks, I have $30 in the bank and a $50 Wal-Mart gift card on which to live. My medical credit card went $9 over limit when the statement dropped; these variable interest rates are a pain to estimate. Two other cards may go over limit because of payment protection fees. Had to pay more than $250 in taxes and related expenses; that's what messed up the budget so badly.

    Still can't believe my friend is gone. Have no money or credit to send flowers to her service; I hate that. Had to reschedule my appt. with the shelter (again) because of the situation at work. Psych dr just gave me enough samples to last until the middle of next month because I don't have money to buy any more of the first med he started me on. Went ballistic at the Temp on Sunday, and haven't been able to get in touch with him to apologize (although I did explain, and he understands). Feels like my chest is full of lead.

    Just need to get through the next two weeks. I'll be 52 years old by then.

  20. Leeny! Oh my gosh! I am at a loss for words! PLEASE tell me what I can do to help you! If you NEED ANYTHING, please don't hesitate to ask. I know how bad things get, as I went thru a period five years ago when I didn't even have 30.00 and no money coming in. My credit was maxed out and no one wanted to help (or maybe I was too proud to ask!). mollycat71 at yahoo dot com I am so sorry about your loss as well. I am completely confused why Heaven is calling home so many angels lately, it baffles my mind. It makes me so sad, why does it hurt so bad? I am sending you so much white lite and prayers and hugs! Please keep in touch and keep us updated. And remember, it's OK to ask for help and prayers! That is why we are here!

  24. I'm about to go pick up my car, which has been repaired to the tune of something like $900--BUT, I have a credit card from that particular garage that is (or was) completely paid off and has a credit line that more than covers the repair costs. Because the card can't be used anywhere else, for anything but car maintenance, it doesn't get run up. That's the one thing I could afford.
