I have some exciting news... I am trying to adopt 2 little doxie/chihuahua mix puppies. They are from a rescue not too far from where I live. They were abandoned in a drainage ditch in late March/early April. They were probably about 2 weeks old and it was still frigid here in Michigan. They were wet, cold and covered in ticks. After addressing the medical issues, the rescue placed them in a home where a stray had just given birth to 5 puppies and she accepted them and has been nursing them etc. They will be ready for adoption in about 2 weeks. Since I couldn't have kitties, I asked the doctor about puppies and he said they were fine--they don't hunt and no litter box--as long as they were short haired--so I found these little girls that need me!! Now I just have to convince Tom--shouldn't be too hard, he usually gives me whatever I want! They are itty-bitty family--couldn't we make them honorary kitties??? lol!

Ahem *Emma clears throat softly*
I think that anyone who is unable to adopt cats and has chosen to rescue young, helpless little canines should be canonized.
And since these babies are to be adopted by someone who loves cats, the said adoptees could be called "dats" or "kuppies" or....oh, you get the idea!
*Emma begins to coo to the little rascals, eyes misting behind glasses*

Awwwwww...Shelley how exciting to hear about these little sisters you're wanting to bring home. Absolutely they can be honorary kitties! Most of us have quite a love for dogs as well as kitties and I personally am thrilled to hear that the doc gave the ok for these sweet little ones who had such a rocky start. Keep us posted and you know the only real rules is pics as soon as possible! LOL!

Oh, Shelley, I am so sorry, too. But Tom's health needs to come first. Don't be sad - come to Florida!

I'm so sorry it didn't work out for you. I'll keep hoping that you find a pet suited to both of you.

The Sphinx could be the answer to your problem. There is also a new breed claimed to be hypo-allergenic but they cost around $5000+, so the Sphinx is the way to go--they are so ugly they are cute (sort of like my Sheba and other Persians with the very flat face!) You sound like you have so much love to give, and of course we love ALL animals, just are partial to cats. Good luck!

And Sphinxes are very smart and intuitive! My friend insists that Aristotle, her Sphinx, always understands her moods. One time, Dana was having a nightmare and woke up to find Ari crouched on her chest, peering into her eyes. She said that really scared her (his two huge glowing golden eyes), but then she heard that loud and soothing purr and she starting laughing. Dana swore that the cat was laughing with her.
Holding Aristotle is like cuddling a chamois-covered hot water bottle, and he is so loving. By the way, she named him Aristotle because she said that even as a tiny kitten, he showed great wisdom: he picked out the one human being in the world who would understand and adore him, no matter what he looked like.
And she does.
