A horde is born

  1. The first in January, the next in March, one in July and finally one in November. I only planned to have 1-2. How did this happen?

#4 is Adhmon (sp?) a 6-year old spayed boy. He lived in an Ukrainian-Russian family. They had a little girl who wanted a dog. A sweet pug puppy moved in which deeply upset the family cat. The newcomer ate his food, insulted his privacy and kept on biting him. (The pup is teething right now.) The family solved the problem by giving up the kitty.

So, imagine a plump brown tabby with white bib and legs and a sweet kittenish face. He is very agile considering his big belly and quite a spitfire. Luckily he is calming down - I think the pug really unnerved him. He gives nudges to me but maintains a certain distance. The kitties sniff him and he sniffs right back but remains a little cautious with them too.

I think Miska (his new name) will soon adapt himself to my home. But if I tell here I took another one, talk some sense to me. Seriously.

  3. Miu, similar situation here. Had 2 cats, lost one in April, got one in April, got 3 more in July, and then 10 in august, adopted out 8 in September, with 2 more to go. Leaving 5 here. I think it happens so fast sometimes, that you really don't realize it.

  4. Miu, I think it's great that you are adding to your family by saving this boy. I had 1 cat for 14 years (Zasha), then Munchie, a starving baby ran into my open door. Then I had to move and inherited and started feeding 3 ferals, and one Sunday morning I spotted two sweet little baby faces peeking over the hill in back. They ate, I learned about trapping, trapped Bob and Chloe to neuter, and now I have 21 inside and outside fluxuating between 2 & 7.

Whenever I feel like I can't clean another litter box or wipe up another mess I just look at their sweet faces, listen to the purrs, and rethink what I can withstand.

  5. Elene, if I could have afford for a house, I would have many more cats. The situation for kittens is not so bad here, but too many adults are euthanized because people grow tired with them (i.e. get fake allergies). I don't think I am especially lucky but all the four I now have are adults and they get along well (Miska has only stayed here for 4 days.)

  6. Elene...I know what you mean. When getting breakfast for mine this a.m., I saw something moving thru the curtain. When I looked...Lo & Behold, there was Mr. Friendly, one from our newest feral litter. They're only going on 6 wks. old. But there he was in all his glory, both front paws on the glass & mewing, as if to say "where the heck is breakfast"

  7. miu...are you in an apartment where your limited to the number of animals you can have?

  8. Susie, that is so sweet - Mr. Friendly is a great name, and I hope you can just pick all of them up when the time is right for rescuing. Wishing you many more smiling moments from these new babies.

  9. hello miu...sounds like Miska is a very, very lucky kitten. God Bless you for giving these wonderful creations such a loving home!

  10. Susie: No, we don't have that kind of limitations. Pet restrictions are very unusual.City ordeal and the animal protection law are the only ones putting limits. If you rent an apartment here you usually pay first a guarantee sum (1-3 month's rent) which is supposed to cover things you and your pets damage.

I don't rent, I own my apartment, so it would be very difficult to throw me out as long as I pay my yhtiövastike (= in English???) and don't cause unbearable disturbance.

  12. I could use some advice and can't think of a better place to get it...please...I have a litter of kittens who have become ours by chance..they were brought to us by their mother approx. 5 mos. ago..(Mama is mia 2 wks. now. sniff) and it would seem there may be problems developing between the sibblings. I extend all my love, and spoiling upon any one of them I commandeer at any time, yet it would seem that the larger, and bolder of the litter may be trying to establish a king of the mountain position among the ranks. I'm afraid the meeker of the litter (Sugarfoot and Shady) are not sticking as close to home as the other two (Toughy and Oreo)and I worry they may leave home permanently. Is there anything I can do to tighten this loop of sibblings so that noone is feeling left out and leaving home because they're feeling unwanted??? I love each of them dearly and since Mama has disappeared I'm feeling vulnerable and worried for the undercats here.

  13. Can you keep them indoors? Cats have their own loose pecking order, it is not as strong as in pack animals like dogs, but they will measure each other to determine who's going to get the best sleeping spots, eat first etc. If you can provide the basics (food, rest, love...) for every kitten you shouldn't be too worried - kittens don't harm each other badly. It is just our human nature which tells us we shouldn't favor the strong ones in the expense of the weaker.

  14. sorry miu for my rude pause...had to see to a kitty..but I do allow them to remain in or out at will at all times. When they're all in...they tend to spread out a bit but the meeker do not join in much of the frolic. I don't really know why...I don't think they're getting too awfully beatup in the ruckus but then I don't witness all that occurs in the darker hours of sleep.
