Sorry--didn't see this any earlier---we are fine--tho downtown area and some folks right along the river have been evacuated or are being told to do so.
Corps of Engineers says crest was actually Monday, and river is now going down slightly--very tiny bits, but down--It is still more that 5 feet above flood stage, which doesn't sound like much, but in the Plains where everything is so flat, it makes for alot of problems--and kind of scary. Couple of parks are completely under water, as are many bridges--out of 11 bridges in this town, only 1 remains open right now.
Thanks for your concern PJ,CM--Need good thoughts so people are able to get back in their homes.Posted 2 years ago by morrissmom #

We actually made it to the National News, too--only a town of 7000 people, but I guess when they send in Blackhawk and Shanook helicopters to drop those big 1,000 lb. sand bags to shore up the levies, you get on the news!!

Feral, that is so true--water will go where it wants to and it's very hard to stop it. Glad you were helped out too--there's alot of people in this town that still have their houses thanks to those big bags.

I will--my other half is one of the guys driving the dump trucks for last 3 weeks building levee's-- he just called and said they are enclosing the Police Station in a contingency dike all of a sudden--apparently they have a feeling that some of these levee's will not hold for the 2 weeks it's supposed to take for this water to go down---I sure hope they are wrong.

Morrissmom, glad that you are safe and that the water is receding even if slowly. Five feet above flood level is quite a bit when thinking about it, that has to be scary. Hope that it goes down like it is supposed to and that the levee's do their job and more.

MM, glad to know you are safe; one thing about ND, it's either flood or drought!

Apparently this is so true, PJ---I've only lived here 2 years but have seen some pretty drastic weather already. Thank you--hopefully we are on the downside of this--other communities however are just beginning.
