I have some 16 day old kittens. I had 4 but we lost one last night. I think she had aspirated the day before... We are going to bury her today....
Their mom had a masectomy on Tuesday so I have been bottlefeeding these kittens for a week now. Last Friday I had to take her into an Emergency Vet Clinic because she had milk fever and mastitis.....
Anyways... The kittens all have had hard poops... They didn't even poop for several days after starting to bottle feed them. this could be that they weren't getting enough milk from their mom and their body was using all the formula up... They are peeing well. Now Daisykit is trying to poop and I can see the nugget there but it seems like it is too big to push out. A little bit of poo juice is leaking outside of it.... would an enema work? I mean if the turd is too big for her butthole to pass do I really want to put more liquid up there? She is drinking well. We have them on KMR.
I do have a vet coming out this afternoon to do a surgery on my dog and I could ask her then but I thought maybe you all would be able to give me some advice. I am stressed about losing Leiakit since I know the reason she aspirated was probably my fault.... ughhhhh.... I haven't had kittens born here in 12 years and then it has been nothing but problems. My cat wasn't supposed to get bred but the kids let her out when she was in heat in January and with it being winter we always have 2 feral tomcats that like to live here because they know there is food. Do you know how hard it is to tell your kids that a kitten has died? Leiakit was my 4 yos... not that he did anything to upkeep her but the kids got to name them.... also the older ones are reading the warrior series hence the "kit" at the end of their names...
Sorry to ramble...
If anyone has any good suggestions I would be greatful. I am feeding them about every 4 hours.... At night sometimes it is 8 hours it depends on how exhausted I am... we live on a farm and are just going to be starting lambing season....
Thanks.
