We really want a cat tower, but cannot pay Petsmart's 400 buck price. We've thought about making our own. Any suggestions or pictures to share? Thanks!

I am the wrong one to give advice on this--I am not mechanically inclined! But I know there was someone on here that has made them. Let's make sure this stayed bumped to the top so that tomorrow the day people see it too. I really don't remember who made one. Someone will I bet!

LB, Hizlilbrat made her own and has lots of pictures and knowhow.
I got mine on E-Bay - they are a LOT cheaper, even with shipping which is expensive. I got a really big one for $20 on Ebay - it cost me $60 to ship it here, but I ended up paying $80 total versus $300-$400.

When you use actual trees do you have to treat them with something?

Yes, they are sturdy, but they weigh a ton. I've replaced some of the carpeting on the rests over the years (and it needs to be replaced again) but they have held up very well through many cats. The one downstairs has sisal wrapped around some of the poles too, I know some cats prefer that for scratching.

LBM We jsut got my max one from Petco for less the 170! It was priced 149.99! With a 20 % discount dropping it to 119.99 so not too bad! Strong sturdy! Multiple levels!

Browse around the net and pick a pattern you like or after reading through several come up with your own design.

I found someone to make it for us for free if we buy the wood and provide the plans. So now I just have to find plans that I like.

That is cool! There are many just remember mutliple levels, easy access from on to the other since she's a baby, but remember she will grow so make the shelves, cradles, and beds big enough she will still fit in them as an adult! Oh and maybe a tunnel, or a multi;ayered cylinder and attatched toys add for fun just make sure it is easy to change out when it's dead!

I ended up purchasing one off ebay instead of building it. The prices were not bad and I found exactly what I wanted. Thanks for all of your advice!

I'm starting to feel like a PR firm, but check some of the products on Dr.Foster and Smith. You can sort by price if you click on the box on the right side.

Ally's doing really well! She is watching her first rain right now and only one word describes it...AMAZING! She has almost completely stopped drinking her milk and just eating her kitten food. Most importantly, no more seizures.
