Week old Kitten not pooping

(3 posts)
  1. Last week my husband and I heard some noises coming from our garage and we figured there was a wild animal in there such as a opposom or something so we found that we think the animal is getting in through the doggy door.. We dont own any dogs or cats so I asked him to board it up. The next evening around 11:30 I went out to the garage because I kept hearing something cry,I got to digging around and found a kitten in a box and the kitten was rather cold and shaken up. I brought the kitten in and started bottle feeding it and it has not pooped yet it has now been today will 6 days and no luck. Please help me!

  2. Hi, JNS1G. Welcome to the Daily Kitten! Kittens often have trouble keeping a regular pattern of elimination. I am no expert, but if your kitten hasn't pooped in six days, it is time for a trip to the vet.

Depending on how young your kitten is, it may need help pooping. The mother cat does this by licking the kitten's genital region which stimulates the kitten to poop. You can do this by gently rubbing the anal region in a clockwise motion with a warm wet washrag.

Bless you for rescuing this little one. Please keep us posted on how your kitten is doing. :)

  3. Give her some Dark Karo syrup a few times a day. My kitten is 3 weeks old today and he gets about 1/2 teaspoon of Dark Karo in 2 tablespoons of KMR formula. Also is absorbs well through the gums, so if you rub some on her gums it may help too. Try to rub the kittens rear before and after you feed it. Good Luck!
