  1. I think if the commercial had had Spongebob doing all the dancing it would have come across funny and clever. The fact that it was girls in short shorts...even with square butts...took it from something to appropriate for kids in to something to grab the dad's attention. I did go and look at the you tube version so that I could read the lyrics and they are all about Sponge bob and his friends...no need for the girls at all.

  2. I quit eating BK about 25 years ago when all the franchises in Oahu (where I lived at the time) were owned by a corporation called "Pentagram." I couldn't reconcile giving my money to a corp. named for a sign of the devil. Once I left Oahu, I just never wanted to eat there again. Seeing that creepy "King" character only made me more determined never to eat there again.

Used to love Carl's Jr. when I was stationed in San Antonio--they had an avocado burger that was to die for. That was in 1985, and I've never lived near one since. Loved Hardee's when I lived in GA and SC; still miss their Frisco Burger.

Never seen an In-n-Out, much less tried one, but my Cali contacts tell me it IS "all that."

In Austin, TX, though, I can say unequivocally that the best burger in existence, bar none, is at the Burger House. The franchise is based in Dallas, so folks in the Big D, don't deny yourselves!

  4. The simplest solution to all of your problems is to stop watching TV. It's not really that hard. I've watched maybe an hour of TV in the last two years and I'm no worse off for it.

If all commercials were like the Burger King commercial, I'd probably start watching more, though. 90-degree angles! Great stuff!

  5. I feel bad, I just ate a burger from BK. It wasn't good and I have a headache now from eating that crap. I should know better. If I can give up soda, I can give up BK. Chili's makes a heck of a better mushroom and swiss cheese burger anyways. One of these days I want to try a Red Robins. I have a habit of turning off the sound and not watching the commercials when they come on. I DVR a lot of shows so I fast forward through the commercials.

  6. Hubby tried Red Robin once. He said the prices were outrageous, the burgers were miniscule, and the service (or lack thereof) only added insult to injury. There are so many good burger joints here (and after being suckered into trying the one all the radio DJ's are co-opted into saying is "the best in Austin"--believe me, it ain't), I figure: why waste time and money on a bad one? Hence, no Red Robin for me. Ditto for Joe's Crab Shack.

  7. Reading these descriptions of favorite burgers made me so hungry that I just had to prepare a veggie burger for myself--with the works! Mighty fine eatin'!!!

  8. Red Robin is not cheap, but their burgers are very good. You are paying for the "unlimited steak fries". I love the Carl's Jr. Avocado 6-Dollar burger too.

  9. They have the girls there because it's a parody of the original Sir Mix A Lot video, which is actually a very funny song.

I never ate at Carl's Jr - especially after I worked as an A.A. for one of the Karchers at CKE. Richard Cranium for sure.

I didn't eat many burgers in Cali at all. I didn't care for In N Out - too bland. I DID love Islands, though.

For my money, Beck's Prime is the bomb. They are closed for remodeling all this month and I'm having severe withdrawals. I won't TOUCH another burger until they open back up on Friday. I don't give a fig if their double burger IS $11.58 - it's money very well spent :)

I have 3 BK bobbleheads on my desk. They creep people out, so I'm trying to find more.

  11. I talked with a friend of mine last night, better known to those of us who love her as "The Dowager Empress of Protocol -- Southern Division." When queried about the commercial, she said, "Yes, I saw it. Twenty years ago people would have been embarrassed to see young women dancing like ladies of the night to sell food. With comments on body parts forthcoming."

I was stunned. Then I asked her if she had ever eaten a BK burger.

    Loooong pause.

"...and I don't eat trash, either."

I changed the subject at warp speed.
