  1. Any of you have cats that enjoy riding in the car?

  2. My Max loves it but only when he feels safe and snug in his carrier!

  3. Sure, James loves the car, but only if he's on my lap! So only when my husband is driving. Actually, James loves anything we do as long as he can lap-sit. :) The wonders of a pampered Persian.

  4. Kyba loves going outside, so yesterday I thought I'd take her on a ride to the store. She was yelping and wouldn't stay out of my lap. I got scared she was going to attack my face so I took her back. I think she would really enjoy it if she'd give it a chance.

  6. Abby likes it, but she too likes it in her carrier.... even though I open the front and she could get out if she wanted, she chooses to ride in her carrier.

  7. My cats don't like it in the car - probably because they associate it with going to the V-E-T.

My Jerrie was the worst car rider ever, mainly because he would freak out when he was in a carrier. When I first got him, the vet was on the other side of town and I would seriously question if he would make it or not, he was so frantic. Once on the way home I let him out of the carrier because I felt so bad. He ended up standing on the front seat, with his front paws up on the dashboard, looking through the windshield (well, he was a very long tall cat). He was panting with his tongue hanging out because he was upset. At one point, we were stopped at a red light and two guys in a truck next to me looked over and saw him, and started laughing. One yelled out "Why don't you open the window for him?" We always did say that Jerrie was under the delusion that he was in fact a dog. I was very happy when the vet moved to my end of town.

  8. One of the best pieces of advise someone ever gave me was to use a DIFFERENT container to transport your cat to the vet, than the carrier you use for "fun" trips....... Abby's mesh carrier is the one we travel in, and go on vacas and to the mountains.... she loves it, and doesn't mind getting in at all because she knows she's going somewhere fun with me! She even sleeps in it by choice when we're on trips sometimes - I always put it on the floor by my bed, and leave the front flap open...... to go to the vet, I always put her in a carboard carrier the vet gives out (it's a struggle), and she cries during the ride, because she knows that means vet!......

  9. Taco loves riding in the car. He'll purr and go right to sleep within a minute of getting in the car and stay asleep for the entire ride (the longest we've gone with him was 5 hours and he slept the whole time).

Feeny does not like riding in a cage, but he does pretty well when he is left to roam the car. He's only been in the car for a long period of time twice. One time he slept in his carrier, and the other time he just cried until he was let out to roam the car. He likes to look out the window http://www.flickr.com/photos/28557629@N06/3448239256/

  11. Mine do NOT like the car... And when we spent 8 hours on the road out of town for Katrina (for a normally 2 hour trip) it was not fun.

  12. The only cat of our four who doesn't mind the car is Sneakers. I'm sure that's because the other three have only had car rides that ended up at the vets. But Sneakers sometimes ends up at a nice mountain cabin where he gets to play with his cousin Spike for the weekend. (Spike's mommy and daddy invite the whole neighbourhood up to their vacation cabin several times a year. Spike always goes with them, and he invites Sneakers.)

  13. Mine hate it---means a vet visit. They didn't mind the plane ride here though----much to my surprise they slept all the way. After the disaster of taking my first cat Puff to be spayed (I had to hold her in the car while my mom drove, no carrier, she scratched me all over!) my mom always took my meezer kitten in the car with her every time she went out. I believe that is why he caught pneumonia, which he barely survived, but 3 years later a piece of scar tissue broke from his lung and killed him.

  14. ginirosaru....is that your cat in the water at the beach? That is awesome!

  15. Links, yes, it is. Thank you! Taco is the one in the water (and the one who sleeps in the car...you can tell he is very laid back and un-cat like, haha). Feeny is the one who is exploring the sand

  16. My sister's cat Cindy used to like going in the car, as long as she was allowed to be loose. My sister put her in a borrowed cat carrier once. It was a wicker basket, and they are quite expensive. She ate her way out of it leaving a large hole in the side. My sister had to buy a replacement for the friend from whom she had borrowed it.

  17. Bobby doesn't mind going in the car - I put his carrier sideways on the passenger seat so he can watch me. Most of the time he ends up going to sleep. He rode in cars a lot as a kitten, mostly to go to the office to hang out with me and Old Boss so he doesn't necessarily think he's going to the vet when we go in the car. He also really likes his carrier. I leave it out for him - it's on the lowest level on the floor of the kitty castle and he likes to climb in there and go to sleep.
Mi is scared of most everything and cars, too. It's been quite a while since we've been in a car together so when it's time for his check-up soon, I'll be anxious to see how it goes.

  18. I'd love to take Kyba to the store. I don't like dogs, so I need my cat to fill that empty void of pet riding in the car. Maybe after several small rides she will get used to it and like it.

  19. She might, as long as she's not a scaredy-cat like my Milo! If you take her somewhere nice or give her some treats, etc. she'll probably be alright with it.
