  1. What are you sewing? A new dress for Boots?

    Posted 2 years ago by mollycat71 #

  2. Sorry for the delay in replying. I had a coughing fit and then hubby called from Philly. :)

I don't think Boots would enjoy wearing a dress although she'd be very cute in one. lol I have to make a gathered skirt (four yards of fabric with five rows of elastic at the waist) and bloomers to wear underneath for my hula class. This is a very traditional outfit. We will be having peasant tops made for us out of the same fabric. One of my classmates doesn't sew at all so I may end up making hers too. The patterns are easy so it shouldn't take long. I just need to get started!

  3. Oh, another reason to go back to England - I vote yes! Not that I need a reason... I keep making more lovely friends over there, which are always a good reason to go back.

I just finished the Sunday New York Times crossword, which was EVIL. Hubby is still struggling, but he was so smug when he finished before me yesterday I'm not sure I want to help him out :P

So hot here it's not funny. George is hiding under the kitchen table in the shade.

  4. Hi, Kilroy. Has George given up his biting ways? :)

Posted 2 years ago by Kitten Whisperer #

  5. Kilroy, PLEASE send some heat to WI!!! We had one nice day on Friday, in the 80's, then back to a fall/winter feel! Only 48 here now and oh so dreary! I can't sit down unless I have a crossword book on my lap! I find them very relaxing :)

  8. boots is beautiful

  9. KW, I was just thinking yesterday that I can't remember the last time George seriously bit me. He still bites hubby sometimes, but that's because hubby uses his hands and feet as toys, no matter how often I point out that doing that just encourages George to bite. But he hasn't attacked me in a long time (Kilroy does a quiet happy dance because her kitty loves her).

  10. MC, did you sleep OK last night?

Posted 2 years ago by Kitten Whisperer #

  11. That is spectacular news, Kilroy! I am happy for you. You don't have to dread getting up at night to be attacked by a small tiger! lol

  12. fair, very restless. i have some sort of relestless leg thingee going on. i got up and started to pack some items for the hospital. its funny how brain surgery and knowing the cutting of your neck will effect you. i had to buy some bras that hook in the front, button down tops so as not to pull over my head, a word search puzzle book (says I will need to 'purposely' exercise my brain post op), notebook, pens, jammies, undies, etc....

  13. It makes a huge difference, KW. I think one thing that helped was that we stopped shutting him out of the bedroom at night; I think when we did that he got wound up because he didn't like being shut out, and then he would take it out on me when I got up.

  14. oh, i can't forget the hat from you and the kitty "worry stone" from DM!

    Posted 2 years ago by mollycat71 #

  15. (((george)))

    Posted 2 years ago by mollycat71 #

  16. You were wise to let George be in charge when it comes to doors, Kilroy! He is fine as long as he get his way. :)

MC, smart thinking about managing things like dressing post op. :)

  17. kilroy, may i please ask a question? how well does a scar on your head heal? does it hurt? they say about a five to eight inch cut up my neck and the back of my head. I have seen pix but not on MY head! LOL

    Posted 2 years ago by mollycat71 #

  18. KW, we help people with that everyday in rehab. i am "borrowing" a long handled shoe horn and reacher from work to be able to not have to reach or bend over. I am also looking at grab bars in the tub/shower since my balance will be off for about six months! but hey, i will save on shampoo and hair care! :D

  19. MC, it sounds like they've given you good information about what to expect, which is *so* important. I just wish you had more help and didn't have to do all this stuff for yourself.

  20. One of my daughter's friends had a brain tumor removed. She maintains a website which shows her head shaved and her stitches. It follows her as her hair grew back. There are lots of photos on it. If you click on her "my story" link, you will see more photos from losing her hair due to follow up chemotherapy. She looks great now and she is about to become a mother for the first time! http://jennyterpenning.googlepages.com/

  21. Hm, let's see, how to answer. I have several scars on my scalp and one that runs down the side of my neck. The only people who ever comment on them are hairdressers; they tend to get a bit weirded out. The guy who does my hair now is the only one who ever said "I just want to make sure I'm not going to hurt you or something", which made him a keeper.

The only surgery I was old enough to remember was when I was 16, so a million years ago or so :) I *think* I remember that the scars healed up quickly with no problem. I was glad when my hair grew in enough to hide the one on my head, though.

I agree with KW that it sounds like your doing some very smart planning ahead. Grab bars would be a very good idea.

I think you're going to be a lot braver about this than I was, MC. I was a self-conscious, miserable 16-yr-old who wanted to hide in her room until her hair grew back. You don't have to feel like that.

  22. I have tried multiple times to set up my account with GD's help on multiply. I am going to do pix before, during the hair shaving, at the hospital, after, and the progression of my hair "rebirth". I can't get the darn thing to work and it makes me so angry. I paid for a "premium" membership so I could customize it and now I feel ripped off. I have been loading up the IPOD too for the hospital, some meditation stuff for before surgery and some for after (for faster healing)

  23. You should have no trouble covering the scar with your hair. Your hair is pretty thick as I recall from our meetup last month. Was it only last month? :)

    Kilroy, I'm sorry you had to go through this surgery when you were at such a socially vulnerable age. {{{hugs}}}

  24. my hairdresser says my hair may in fact come back VERY thick! as a child had so much hair they had to thin it. i will be on lots of vitamins and minerals to promote healing (they recommend pre-natal vitamins-rx strength)!

    Posted 2 years ago by mollycat71 #

  25. You are going to be better than ever, MC!

Posted 2 years ago by Kitten Whisperer #

  26. KW, very interesting website and good for MC to see the progression of the healing of the scar, etc. Good for your daughter's friend on her pregnancy! Miracles happen alot :)))

  27. Time for me to have some lunch and get to sewing. I'll check back later on. :)

KH, Jenny is such a strong, lovely young woman. I know she will be a fine mom.

  28. Katthays, are you getting storms? Its storming like it is spring or something here in Illinois! Enjoy sewing KW, love to see the finished product!

    Posted 2 years ago by mollycat71 #

  29. MC, no...no storms here.....just very dreary....don't think it is raining here, either. I noticed some thunder last night

Posted 2 years ago by katthays #
