  1. SOXSMOM - good grief girl ! I pray that this is the end of the sad, bad, devistating news for you.

  2. SM, how sad about your friend's granddaughter...such a tragedy, I am so sorry. You have your own health issues to deal with, too! You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

  5. Maggie's celebration of life was today in Phoenix. It has shaken everyone up, she was far too young. She has had several bad attacks, but she was rushed to the emergency room. No one expected this outcome. She went into respiratory arrest and then cardiac arrest they said. They tried to revive her. My daughter has asthma--scary to think so I won't.

I now have the prescription as my doctor wrote--thank goodness! I have to admit at least today my temperature wasn't all over the place.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers--they make the day better. Reminds me that I am very blessed!

  6. I'm so glad you are getting the right amount of medication! That pharmacy could have damaged your health! They should have consulted with the doctor, not rewritten the prescription!! Yay that your temperature is more under control. *whew!*

  7. I don't understand and doctor hasn't gotten it through my head the problem with my temperature. I understand hypothermia, but why can't my body stay warm. I don't understand that. I feel like the vampires had their way with me. I went on line and other than being in cold conditions for extended periods the only thing I see that relates is heart disease and that was ruled out and circulatory issues. I have a feeling that my circulatory issues are now worse than I suspected. My arteries may be cleared but the flow from my legs is sluggish. Is that a good way to describe it? I go back in 4 weeks for that issue. That is if the vampires haven't done me in!

  8. I don't know why your temperature would fluctuate, SM. What is the human equivalent of a thermostat?

Posted 2 years ago by Kitten Whisperer #

  9. Never thought to ask what part regulates temperature. According to brain anatomy it is the cerebrum. Seems to be the same system that regulates vision. Wonder if this is all linked to the TIA. My bleed was filmed on the left side of my brain. It affected my vision. Don't know but now have to question if there was residual damage that is causing this little issue.

  10. SM I asked Ale! Here's what she suggests!

Alejandra Pearlman: she should have a d-dimer run to rule out dvt
    Angelina Bruno: anything else?
Alejandra Pearlman: and should have a peripheral artery scan done

Alejandra Pearlman: and maybe wear a monitor for a while, but not real sure of that

  11. She sounds like my doctor! I had all of them run in Lubbock. They were all normal--at least the artery scan and the halter monitor. I am not sure what the result of the d-dimer was. Think I will have another round of questions.

Thank you both Ange for asking and Ale for helping.

  12. The thought has fluctuated from a dvt to the sinus issue causing the tia. I now wonder if that is why they did the blood test repeatedly. I asked why they needed to do the blood work every 2 hours. I really didn't get an answer, I was just told it was ordered by the doctor.

  13. SM, have you had a thyroid evaluation?

Posted 2 years ago by Tigerlilly #

  14. Yes and it was abnormal, but not enough to start meds he said. That all started about 5 years ago. I always figured it was tied to my stomach surgery.

Posted 2 years ago by SoxsMom #

  15. I don't know of a relationship between stomach surgery and the thyroid hormone per se.
If you had an abnormal thyroid screen, and it has not been checked in 3-6 months, it may be worth repeating.

Posted 2 years ago by Tigerlilly #

  16. I thought it was done when in Lubbock but will check that as well. The thyroid shouldn't interfer with temperature would it?

Posted 2 years ago by SoxsMom #

  17. I've been doing some googling about human temperature and thyroid. Thyroid does have a role in regulating temperature as does the hypothalamus. I'll see if I can find a concise explanation.

  18. Well I had read the information on Wilson's Syndrome, but assumed that I didn't qualify because I did have an abnormal result and it said the tests normally show near normal function. Beginning to wonder if I will talk myself into something. Time to start looking at that notebook and writing down questions to take with me, especially when they send me to the specialists.

  19. I suppose you could have both an abnormally low amount of thyroid hormone released into your blood stream (which shows up in blood tests) as well as a problem with how your cells absorb the hormone once the blood delivers it to the cells. Good idea to ask questions, especially if they aren't doing a good job of telling you what they are trying to do with things like blood tests every two hours. You might be able to be more helpful in getting to the bottom of this if the doctor is more forthcoming about what the causes might be and what symptoms support or oppose a particular cause. I hope any specialist you are sent to views you as part of the team! :)

  20. Good article. This line had me laughing:

"...would require your bed partner to surreptitiously insert a thermometer into some body orifice without disturbing you."

Husband said he doesn't have combat pay anymore! I do think it would be wise to start charting my temperature in the morning before I get up. I know that the charting at school has been after I have had a cup of coffee, although it is long after.

  21. Sounds like a good idea, SM. You will be armed with more useful information for the docs. :D

Posted 2 years ago by Kitten Whisperer #

  22. KW is right on with the above info. Brain and thyroid are both critical in regulating temp. Please double check on whether your thyroid levels were recently done. Especially hypothyroidism would be easily treatable and could be the culprit.
Wilson's doisease is rather rare, I gather you hadreason to believe that you had or have this?

Posted 2 years ago by Tigerlilly #

  23. Don't know about that, but I have learned that if you don't ask questions nothing will happen. Proactive with care seems to be the wave of things. It is easy for a doctor to just dismiss a person as stressed or weight issues and move on. When these little issues--the TIA crop up they are willing to ask why. Perhaps had I been more active it wouldn't have happened. Think I would have learned this by now--seems I always need a refresher course in doctor dealing 101.

  24. TL it was talked about by a nurse, but I didn't know what it was. I looked it up at home. I figured since the doctor said nothing that it wasn't a problem. Now I wonder.

Posted 2 years ago by SoxsMom #

  25. Don't beat yourself up about whether or not you could have done anything to avoid this happening. We have been completely socialized to revere doctors and take their word as gospel. It is hard to ask questions if you get stuck in that don't question/disrespect what the doctor says. I think most doctors today would not be offended by questions.

Posted 2 years ago by Kitten Whisperer #

  26. Know what you mean SM....It's 2009 , buyt trust me , even I have been dismissed as a "woman" worrying too much. We all have to speak up and be as informed as possible.

Posted 2 years ago by Tigerlilly #

  27. Not only not question them, but truth be told I wanted to get out of the hospital so I probably didn't ask more afraid I couldn't leave. Not fond of hospitals if I am the one hospitalized.

Posted 2 years ago by SoxsMom #

  28. It is hard to be an advocate for yourself when you are not feeling well. It would really help to have another person with you who can be sure all necessary questions are asked on your behalf. I noticed that with my hubby when he was in the hospital last Thanksgiving. He was seen by about three different doctors and his memory of what his symptoms were was not accurate. I had to remind him of symptoms he'd complained of to help his docs sort out what was going on.

Posted 2 years ago by Kitten Whisperer #

  29. I think you are right. That is why I was in with the doctor today. Hubby called him. I will see him again next week. Took the kids outside for a celebration today and got burned on top of it all. It is like insult to injury at this point. Anyway I am not doing very good so Hubby made me go and I have to even check in next week. I am getting weaker and today was horrible. Tomorrow will be better.
