Three Week old Claire needs help! Pooping.

  1. April 9th a litter of kittens was born in my very yard! :) In a flower pot half buried in the ground so it made them a wonderful little cave nestled in the leaves. There were six in all~ Their mother and father are a Siamese and a male Tabby cat. Beautiful animals.

Unfortunately, My niece in law (Aunt's husband's niece) saw them. And she loves kittens. Though she's been around them her whole life and knows better, she's at that age where you really can't tell her anything. She picked up one of the cats and before we knew it she'd been playing with it.

Though we told them it was forbidden her and her brother refused to leave the kittens alone and their mother moved them.

All but one. Baby Claire. I was heartbroken to see them gone. I waited for several hours, hidden outside behind an old mattress. (I would go check every two hours and hide behind the mattress. )And the mother never showed.

She came back finally! But to my surprise she did not even look at the kitten. Even hissed at it. Afraid I shooed the mama away and picked up the kitten. I ran to the store and bought all the items I needed. Bottle, syringe, formula.

I found her early Tuesday morning and later on in the week took her to the vet for a check up. She checked out just fine. No deformities. She was okay. The mother and father are feral, so the vet suggested it was the scent of Haily and Alex all over the place, (and not just on the cat) that scared her away.

I told the vet she wasn't pooping. The vet gave me some medicine to make her go. it's been a week, and nothing.

But Claire urinates just fine ( a lot in fact ). I just fed her her anti worm medicine the doctor said to give her.

And still. Nothing. There are some methods I was given. But I want to know, are these safe? Or should i take her back to the vet.

Method 1: Dunking her wee buttocks in a bowl of warm water.

Method 2: Taking a thermometer and covering the end with vaseline, (making sure it's a tiny one) poking it up her butt and massaging it for thirty seconds.

I have tried stimulating her for over a minute and a half. And nothing comes out. I don't really have the money for another vet visit, but I will go if I have to.

Is there anything else I can do? She doesn't seem to be in pain. She mews a lot, but she is very active. Wants to play with my fingers often. Cries when I put her down for a nap. She gains weight daily, her little belly is pudgy, but squishy and not hard, so she isn't constipated.

She reminds me of a toddler the way she'll whine when I put her down and then pass out. I really do love this baby. I just want to give her back the life I'm afraid we took from her.

Sorry about the rammble. Any help would be wonderful.

    -With all my Love, KLF.

  2. Hi and welcome to TDK KLF! Thank you so much for rescuing this wee baby. Kids will be kids and feral cats will be well, feral cats, there's not much more to do than you're already doing, please try not to feel guilty in any way. [[[Hugs]]]
Are you feeding the baby Claire KMR? Sometimes if you're using the powder that has to be reconstituted it can cause constipation problems at first. We have a few members who have recently and are currently raising newborn kittens and can advise you better than I can. I just wanted to welcome and thank you. :)

  3. Try stimulating the area with a warm damp cloth. Many others here know many other things to try, so keep checking back they will get to this post as soon as possible. You might also try going to the front page and check on the left hand side of the page under tags. Look up Poop and Constipation..they are big subjects here.

  5. Thank you both so much. I'll give the wet cloth a try. I have cotton balls but, they do little. Except make easy clean up. And I'd rather not toss my kitten in water.
