  4. If he is really young it may be best to confine him/her to a small room with limited contact from large numbers of people. Even grown kitties sleepm 18-20 hrs a day, your baby need even more.
    What are you feeding him?

  7. KMR is good. Depending on how old he is 1-3 weeks usually they need to be fed every 3-4 hours.

  16. Hi, Julia. Welcome to the Daily Kitten! Your kitten sounds very cute. He is probably crying because he is lonely for his mom and littermates. He is also having to get used to a lot of people and a strange new place. He will need some time to adjust to all of this, but you can help him by following the suggestions made by people who post here.

One thing you can do is fix up a soft bed for him with a small stuffed animal in it that he can snuggle up to. Kittens that small have trouble keeping their body temperature where it should be. It would be helpful to put a hot water bottle or a heating pad in his bed. It should not be too hot or he could end up getting burned. His bed should also have enough room that he can move off of the heat to get away from it if he feels too warm. A lot of us allow our cats to sleep on our beds. Really, cats decide where they are going to sleep and if they don't like a bed you provide for them, they will sleep somewhere else. lol

KMR is the next best thing to mother's milk for orphaned kittens. When you feed him, don't lay him on his back. He could end up inhaling the milk into his lungs and that would make him sick. Do you have a tiny bottle to feed him from? If you don't, most pet stores have them and they are not expensive.

The thing to watch is that the kitten eats, gains weight and poops and pees. Kittens can get dehydrated and go downhill very quickly. If it looks like he is not doing well, then please do take him to the vet before his next appointment. It is tough to hand-raise a kitten, but several people on this website have done it successfully. I hope you do too!

  17. i hope he is okay now iam scared becuz he lays on his back on his own!!!!and i turn him on his tummy and he dont like it sometimes....

Posted 6 months ago by Julia #

  18. Do you mean he lays on his back to drink the milk? If so, can you hold him right side up in one hand while you feed him from the bottle held in your other hand? You can also wrap him in a towel to keep him from flipping onto his back.

Here is a website that explains how to do this: http://www.kittens-lair.net/raising-a-cat/orphan-kittens-nutrition.html

  19. I think it would be nice if the vet could check him out sooner than a week from now. I hope there is a local vet that can see him this week.

  24. me and my family raised my big cat fluffy he is 9yrs i think or ten he is cuddleing with peanut

Posted 6 months ago by Julia #

  25. That is so sweet! Some male cats do have a "mothering" instinct. That will help your new little Peanut settle in at your house. :)

Here is a cute website about orphan kittens being raised in a foster home. There is an adult female cat in the home who starts taking care of each litter as soon as it comes into the home. Her name is Charlene Butterbean. www.theittybittykittycommittee.com

  26. If your older male kitty is 'mothering' Peanut, he may be doing some of the jobs that a mama would ordinarily do. In which case, Peanut may be pooping when the older cat licks him, but you may not be seeing the poops. If the older cat is giving the little guy attention, the baby will definitely benefit from it.

I, too, would take the baby to the vet ASAP. Not because I think there is something wrong with him, just because he is so young and things can go wrong so fast for a baby. The vet will give you peace of mind when he sees what a good job you are being as a substitute mom.

  27. BTW, DON"T check out the website Kitten Whisperer posted (Itty Bitty Kitty Committee) unless you want to pass out from the sweetness and cuteness there.
