  1. I am divorced, fairly recently (2005) and in the same state as Leeny. Everything was divided in half right down to IRA's, cars, bank accounts etc. I think this is fairly standard.

  4. Leeny, I am so thankful that you got some legal advice. Now that you know what the possible outcomes are on each issue, you can do some real planning. You are so overdue for a happy, peaceful life! {{{hugs}}}

  5. Leeny, don't know what to say, but glad you are moving on from your situation. I don't understand all the legal things, but it looks like you have your ducks in a row and I wish you much success and my prayers are with you always. Stay well, stay safe and God's blessing be with you. Love, mama Lynn

  8. Leeny: Good for you! You've taken the first steps toward peace of mind and safety. Keep on moving, girl. Continued prayers and white light coming your way.

  9. KA13, I was thinking the same thing. I had to pay $500 retainer and then it was just under $2000 for final bill and that wasn't due until divorce was final. But, that was in 1985 and this might not be too bad except for the up front money.

  10. I'm going to call the domestic violence prevention agency. They have legal advocates, and I'm going to ask them if they know of any lawyers who could handle this without needing $3000 up front.

  11. That is a good idea, Leeny. They should have connections to some legal aid groups that can help you and save you money.

  12. Leeny I'm just catching up here. I'm glad you are looking out for yourself and your safety and happiness. I will keep you in my prayers. I believe it is time for you to take your life back and live it for yourself.

  13. Leeny, the state Bar could also help you find an attorney to work with you. Their number is 404-527-8700. Good luck to you, and please let me know if I can help!

  15. Good for you Leeny, and I'm sure you don't have to support him and give him everything. Let the state/county do it, that's what you pay taxes for. We are here for you!
