I had my "pre-op" today! I guess this is REALLY gonna happen, or at least I think so! My surgery has already been changed to 11AM from 730AM, wish it were earlier so I didn't have to think about it! We went thru so many questions today and then she asked what "field of work" I was in and that sent things into a tizzy! I told her "health care" and she said that opened a whole nuther can of worms. I had to go in for an infectious disease testing round today. I had blood work done and my nose swabbed. They are most concerned about a super bug called MRSA (long name, won't go into it here!) that is resistent to most drugs. Working in healthcare I almost certainly carry it. IF I test positive there are three things that could happen, one-NO SURGERY, two-try to treat with very high dose antibiotics, or three-nothing. She said usually they immediately cancel surgery, YAY! :( She said every surgeon is different and she couldn't speak for my surgeon. It is his perogitve as to how he handles it. I was really bummed out after that. How can I go on without the surgery? Really, I NEED IT! My foot is really driving me crazy and I can hardly stand to wear shoes. My head is in so much pain today it is ridiculous! Will know something on Monday. I did speak to a nice gentleman who works at the hospital who had pix of two very cute yellow labs. I asked him who they were, he said Jack and Otis. They are therapy dogs who "work" at the hospital and "visit" patients who request a visit. I said "sign me up"! If I can't have my girls then the love of a puppy is good for me to hold me over! Ok, enough about me, just wanted to update you on the latest!

Hi MC,no I disagree with that person, all health care workers do not certainly carry MRSA. I was swabbed when I was working in a Burn Center that was home to only the strongest resistant organisms and we all were swabbed and only one person was carrying it. She just used a nasal ointment and was fine. She shouldn't worry you about that, you've got enough going on. <Buttercup b***h slaps ignorant screening person> Gah!
You'll have the surgery most certainly,if you have it(MRSA) and that is a big IF,it depends on your surgeon what is done and at most it will only delay things some. She really didn't have any data and should only tell what is to be done if you have a positive sample, not go into conjecture about what might happen......GGRrrrrrrrr.
You'll get through this MC and you will have great and wonderful relief from your symptoms. [[[[[Hugs]]]]] -
Thanks BC, she was a nurse and seemed to know what was going on but then again maybe not! Thanks for the b***h slap! LOL

Well,as a nurse I know that not all of us are up to date on our info,I was just unhappy that she worried you with the "what ifs?" and you don't even have that info yet(the results of the nasal swab) but then I am a little feisty today. Menopause is such fun. I found it to be useful today LOL,I was having one of my own personal summers and broke out in a sweat while shopping at Sam's and I guess I looked unwell and well feisty because everyone got out of my way. Whoo hoo!

MC, I fully agree with Buttercup. I never tested positive for MRSA, or any other bug. Not even staph. So we don't all carry it. She was, in my opinion, unprofessional to give you yet another thing to worry about. And I feel that it is an unjustified worry. *slips in another slap!*

Go ahead and slap away! I am already disappointed surgery has been moved to later in the day and then to say it might be cancelled altogether. THAT'S NOT NICE! :p

MC, my guess is that they will still have you in pre-op pretty early. And they can give you the "happy" drugs in there. One squirt of those and you won't care that the surgery is later than originally planned.
*steps aside after delivering a healthy slap and makes way for Kilroy and GD*

Does this remind anyone of that scene in Airplane where they're all lining up to slap the female passenger who'd got hysterical?!! Love that film!
Molly, don't worry. If they even dare to THINK about canceling your surgery we'll send Emma and WWM in with whack bonk sticks - it would take a very brave person to stand up to that duo!!!

You know, I am going to add the airplane movies to my Netflix queue (SP?). Have not seen them in a while and I need a few good laughs while I am home recovering from my surgery! YES, I will have it, thanks to all of you with your whack bonk sticks attacking the nurse! I can imagine how fun that would be to observe WWM and Emma on the loose with the nurse! That would be hilarious!
