  1. Last weekend we took Mogley in for a cloudy eye which has seemed to clear up. Late this Sat night I noticed him sitting with his mouth open a little bit. I didn't think too much of it at first because other cats that I've had sometimes did that if they smelled something weird or just had their lip sittin funny on a tooth or something. But I took a closer look and touched the end of his nose thinking he'd just lick his lips and close his mouth again but then it became apparent that he couldn't close his mouth! My partner was worried he may have had a stroke or something so we rushed him into the emergency vet. Turns out he had somehow managed to dislocate his jaw! I was floored, poor baby. The vet said that there was no bruising or swelling that would indicate there had been any trauma to the jaw and that maybe he just bit down on a piece of food wrong or something. They took x-rays to be sure and and put him under to put it back in place and now he seems fine. He's on soft food for now just to be safe and pain meds as I'm sure his lil jaw is sore after all that. So two weekends in a row and $700 later I hope this is the last vet visit for a while!

  2. Oh my! Poor Mogley, he is not having a very good month. I have never heard of a kitty dislocating their jaw, but I suppose if it can happen to people it can happen to them. Thank goodness it was the jaw and not a stroke as you had feared. {{{Mogley}}}

  3. Oh, poor Mogley! I've never heard of a cat dislocating his jaw, either! Won't do chin scritches for Mogley then - how about belly rubs?

  4. Our kitties sure can give us a scare! Poor Mogley, I hope he can take a break from the vet for awhile.

  5. I'm also very relieved that it wasn't a stroke or something more serious. I just hope this is not a re-occuring problem now. I just felt so bad for him because I have jaw problems(TMJ) too and I know how much it hurts. The vet offered to wire his jaw shut and give him a feeding tube! I thought that sounded even more scary than it possibly happening again so I said no thanks.

  8. Poor little baby. Maybe he tried to chew something that wasn't chewable. Sometimes I see my babies with their heads at odd angles while they are chewing on hangers, curtain rods, etc.

    Did you get his FIP tests back? And how is his eye?

  9. All his blood tests came back normal, thanks for asking CBM. His eye is no longer cloudy. He was squinting it a little yesterday but the vet tech at the emergency clinic also said that the pain meds he is on could also cause his eyes to be more droopy or want to close. So once he's off the pain meds I will be keeping a close watch on how he's acting with that left eye.
    I also wondered if he tried to chew on something. Another guess by the vet was that maybe he could be more prone to that because he has such a short muzzle? I guess I'm so used to looking at him that I don't think much of it but now both times he was seen both vets commented on how short his muzzle is. My poor lil squish faced baby haha :)

  10. Awww, poor Mogley. Shaddo had more emergency visits than I can count. He had a knack for getting into fights and having mystery illnesses, even in his later years. He had the no fear additude almost all his life.
    Speaking of Shaddo, I spoke to him last night. Preparing Leela's dinner, she jumped from the floor to the chair to the ledge to the counter - just like the steps that the old timers used. "Shaddo, stop telling her she can do that!"

  11. Shaddo has obviously been stopping by to visit his little sister and give her pointers. Poor Mogley! He has had a rough time of it lately. I'm glad it was nothing more serious.
