Beware the Fiber One Bars!~

(75 posts)
  1. I ate one of these with a cup of tea for breakfast on Saturday and am only feeling like myself today. I don't wish to go into the horrifying details, which included being so bloated by noon that I couldn't wear any of my clothes except a wrap skirt to show houses. I went to google to see if the bars were the problem or if it was some kind of stomach virus, and came across this site. Get ready to laugh until you cry at some of the stories.

  2. The Fiber One bars are DANGEROUS! All I can say is I have eaten two in my life and that is all I will ever have! The fiber is very vicious! They caused me gas and cramping and bloating and diahrea! YUCK! Anyone I know who has had them has had the same reaction!

  3. CW, that was hilarious!! I was laughing so hard, I couldn't read some of the stories till I finished laughing. Glad I haven't tried any of these things, though I did buy some for the other half a couple of months ago---this may explain alot!! He said he didn't like them, so never got any more. Maybe I should keep some in reserve as a revenge factor--he drives all day. But I'd end up paying for it later. Thanks for the great laugh.

  4. Try the Weight Watchers Peanut Butter or WW Oatmeal Cookies.

Talk about a religious experience. Eat three and you will see God.

  8. I guess I am the only one who is able to eat the fiber one bars without having the added benefit of chasing the cats and the roommate out of the house. Really, I don't have any bad side effects from eating them - no paint melting farts, no porcelain destroying blowouts, no cramps... nothing. I must be one of the lucky ones.

  9. Hahahaha! That is so funny, thanks for the laugh! :)
<note to self;never, ever ,ever buy these for parents as they scare the dog as it is and wake each other up even though both are hard of hearing.
    LOL!!

  10. My 21 year old son ate HALF of one bar and has had terrible gas for 24 hours. Yet my 12 year old ate FIVE bars in one day and though his little tummy looked distended, he did not have the discomfort the rest of us suffered. He did nearly send his 80 pound self airborne a few times, but that's it! I was expecting a trip to the emergency room when I found all of the wrappers!

  11. I've looked at those bars several times, but never actually bought them. I'm glad I didn't!!!

  12. Thank you CW for making me laugh today. What a hoot or is that toot that site is. I'm wiping the tears from my face and my ribs hurt so much from laughing. I don't know if we can buy Fibre One bars here but if so I may have to slip one into Mr MS's lunch box next time he's in the bad books.

  13. MS, that is a real toot! You should slide one in his lunch box! I would mail you a box just for the entertainment value! They really do taste good and that is part of the problem! You think they are not only yummy but good for you! Oh yeah, they are GOOD for you allright! :P

  14. I was chatting to Airy this morning and she is going to look for them at her local Albertsons and maybe try a half bar.
I eat mostly wholegrain foods, plenty of veges and porridge for breakfast so I don't think it's advisable for me to try one(my excuse and I'm sticking to it). Just may get Airy to send some over next time she sends me a 'care' package.
MC, the wee evil imp in me really wants to toss a bar in his lunch box next time he annoys me and knowing Airy thinks like me I guess she will send some bars over if they are able to pass our bio-security rules.

  15. The stories are hysterical! What a riot. (BTW, I eat them without any problems too...I think they are pretty good.)

  16. I eat a lot of fiber already, including the Fiber One cereal which does not have this effect. I eat a lot of plant fiber and only nine-grain bread from a local bakery that grinds the wheat and bakes the bread the same day. So if it was just the fiber in this small bar, it shouldn't have done any harm to me. There is some devious ingredient doing this. Some have stated that it is the chicory root that is the first ingredient. I don't know. I can telll you that the painful cramps would have made me think I was going into labor if that had been even the most remote possibility.

    LOL!!!!!!

  19. I do remember when I ate an entire large sugar-free chocolate bar in one sitting. Afterward, I had to camp out in the bathroom around the clock! When I read the back of the label, it said "Excessive Consumption May Cause Diarrhea." It needed a much Bigger and Louder warning!

Posted 2 years ago by Dee #

  20. Gosh, Dee.... louder? Maybe not in public places.... :-)

Posted 2 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  21. It should have came with a loud beep...and a Hazmat suit!

Posted 2 years ago by Dee #

  22. Go for the Slimfast bars-now those are so good, I can even join Emma in heaven!

  23. Many years ago when I worked at a gym, someone gave the staff a large bag of sugar-free candy. Let's just say that no one was available to teach aerobics that afternoon!

Posted 2 years ago by Catwoman #

  24. That is so funny!

Posted 2 years ago by Dee #

  25. The Special K bars with the chocolate are very good also. I've never been flatulent when I've eaten them.

But generally I have eggs and bacon for breakfast so there ya go.

  26. I eat the fiber one cereal with no ill effects - but have never tried the bars. I will look for them the next time I shop... but I doubt it is the chicory either - we use chicory in New Orleans blend coffee and it is not a gas producer... Thanks for posting the stories - I laughed so hard I had to close my office door!!!

  27. OMG! The sugar free candy is so bad too! IF I ever am "clogged up" all I have to do is eat about two mini Hershey's sugar free candies and viola'! Fixed the problem! Since my colon resection in 03, I keep some on hand just in case!

  28. this one is a real toot, i mean hoot, so I have to *bump* it up!

    Posted 2 years ago by mollycat71 #

  29. One of my friends on Facebook just posted as her status that she had a Fiber One Bar and a bowl of popcorn for dinner. Boy, is she going to be sorry. It made me remember this thread, and I thought I'd find and bump it up as a Blast From The Past (no pun intended...)

Thankfully, my friend lives several states away from me, but those who live in Ohio had better close their windows! ;-P

  30. Thank you CW,LOL, I saw the tread title and started laughing all over again. Airy never did send me any Fibre One bars. Might have to ask J-man to send some over.
