Hi all, I'm new to the forum, just need a bit of advice. I have 2 baby kittens that I rescued yesterday, they are approximately 2-3 weeks old. Their eyes are open, they wobble around, and their teeth buds are coming in. I am feeding them kitten formula about every 3-4 hours, I thought I was supposed to feed them every 2 hours, but they are not hungry until 3-4 hours has gone by. I don't know how long they were abandoned, (we think their mother was killed by a wild animal). They have not pooped during the time I have had them, they are urinating just fine, they are satisfied after meals, and they sleep great. I have them in a basket, with a ticking clock next to them. I am just worried about them not able to go. I have tried stimulating them with a damp cotton ball, and like I said, they urinate fine, but no #2. Any advice? Thank you so much!

abandoned kittens haven't gone #2!

Kittens that young especially ones that were abandoned for an unknown while might take a while to go poo and might only go every other day or so. It should be formed and not loose. Maybe add the mineral oil once and give them some time to fill up because kittens can get very dehydrated from loose stools.
Good luck and keep us informed, thanks so much for rescuing these babies. -
You have been given some good advice already, so I will just say welcome to TDK chat and bless you for rescuing these little ones.

Hi Ash, welcome to TDK! Sounds like you're doing all the right things, but just ask if there's anything else you're concerned about. Weekends can be a little quiet on TDK, Mon-Fri is much livelier (no offence my weekend buddies!).
Any chance of some pictures of the little ones? We love pictures!

Thanks for saving the babies! I have found that the cotton ball does not work for me as well as a rough warm wash cloth. I think the wash cloth is more like mom's rough tongue. My first set of orphaned kits did not go for 3 1/2 days. When they did go it was just a tiny bit. As long as they stay hydrated and warm and the little bellies full I'm sure they will be fine. If several more days go by and you get no results take them to the vet. My second set of orphans I found a new mom that accepted the babies without a problem. Best of luck and again thanks so much for rescuing these little ones. MCW is right...we love pictures!!!

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the good advice, this is my first set of orphans, so I am a worrywart about them. Still no poo yet, but good news, I have a mama cat with a litter that is about 5 weeks old, and she is very slowly beginning to mother the orphans, Rusty and Dusty. They were found in a rusty dirty old bucket and it took numerous washcloths before I saw their true colors. =) Will post pics soon, I absolutely love this site! BTW, your babies are all so cute!

Ash, welcome to our litter! Glad everyone here could help you out! I have never orphaned a kitten, usually the older cats find me. I think you sound like a wonderful meowmy! Good luck with your babies, keeping paws crossed that the mommy kitty will take in Rusty and Dusty! Check back often!

Hi again everyone, have an update for you! We have poop! Rusty pooped last night with a little stimulation, and Dusty pooped this morning by herself. Yay! The mama cat is taking to them very well, just a little bit nervous of them though. The other litter loves them dearly, and now all five kittens sleep together in that little nest. I have other cats, and I am a firm believer in spay/neuter, this mama cat is the only female that has not been spayed as of yet. I am going to fix that as soon as all the babies are weaned. In the picture, Rusty is the gray one, and Dusty is the black one. The orange ones are from the existing litter. I will have no problems finding good homes for these cuties, I am sure!
