  1. Hi all! I need my family's advice! I have been chatting online with a nice young man the same age as me (notice I said YOUNG). I knew he was in the medical field and lived in the suburbs. He is a firefighter/paramedic. He finally says to me today, "promise you won't laugh". I said sure, what? He proceeds to tell me he is a nurse. He says people tease him all the time about being a MAN and an RN so he doesn't bring it up until he feels comfy with someone. He lives about 30 miles from me so I say "Where at?" OMG! He commutes! He works at the hospital I am having surgery at! I was stunned and didn't know what to say. NO, I didn't tell him my surgery was there, not sure that is how I want to "meet" him. "Hi, I am Amy, I am bald and I just had brain surgery. Wanna go to the hospital cafeteria?" LOL Should I tell him? Should I just bail out now? Should I wait til after surgery is over? Oh, do give advice here!

  2. Wow! How interesting! It might be to your advantage if you can find out who he is and check him out while you're in the hospital. Then if you like what you see, you can go from there.

  3. I agree with MCM...good idea...once you are recovered and feel more comfortable then you can tell him you had surgery and all the details.
How cool!! I met Wayne online Amy...that was 11 years ago... you never know.. :)

  4. Wayne seems cool! So who knows? Oh my Lord, I hope he doesn't wear pink scrubs!

  5. First things first MC, does he like kitties?
BTW, I would have to agree...tell him after the surgery.

  6. MC, some of my best friends in nursing school were guys. And some of the best nurses that I know are men. So he shouldn't feel at all shy about telling people that he is a nurse! It's not just a field for women, anymore than teaching is a field just for women.

How long have y'all been chatting? I'm just wondering because a nurse would approach news of your surgery much differently than someone not in the field. But I can see where you might want to wait. You could, very innocently, ask your nurse once you've had your surgery and are recovering, if she knows him. Nurses usually do know each other unless it's an enormous hospital. Do you know what unit he works in at the hospital?

  7. MC, he sounds really nice. And I think that someone in the medical field is a lot less likely to be freaked out by your surgery than someone who isn't in that field. And if he trusts you enough to tell you what he does, I think you can trust him enough to tell him what's going on with you.

    Just my $.02

  8. I'd advise caution - maybe I'm a bit of a cynic, but people can pretend to be anything they want online. Tell him you're going away for a few days where there's no internet access, then see if you can check out the basics while you're in the hospital. Then, provided he's not an axe murderer, go for it!!!

  9. He works in the Emergency Room. He just sent me an email and said he would be there all night tonite. Maybe I should cruise on by the hospital and see if he is there and I can see him! Oh wait, that would make me a stalker wouldn't it? It's a fair size hospital WWM, about 500 beds.

  10. Are you sure when undertaking major surgery you want to jump into this? I am a worse cynic than MCW I fear. No sense in not finding out something about him while you are there I guess, but I like MCW's advice.

  11. I am soooooooooo bad! With my job I have access to the state files and data bases. He is who he says, at least on paper. He is licensed as a paramedic and an RN. No complaints filed against him or no action being taken against his license. At least I know that part is right. Now, wonder if he looks like his picture? Maybe I can just "cruise" around the hospital while I am there and see him!

  13. Smart Molly Cat!! I concur with the advice of the others. Wait until after the surgery. If you see him in the hospital and you like what you see...well then. I have to let you know that even though I am not Catholic I did light a beautiful candle for your success with your surgery at the beautiful Notre Dame. As always prayers and thought to you. Hugs

  14. NOTRE DAME, THE NOTRE DAME! As a Catholic that is about the most beautiful thing someone could do for me. I can't thank you enough! You will be blessed for your blessing! THANK YOU (((((PT)))))

  15. MC, men are coming out of the woodwork! How do you do it? Whatever you're doing, I think you need to give us some hints...

He sounds really nice and there's nothing wrong with pink scrubs! A bloke in the caring profession has brownie points before he even starts, in my book. (There are heaps of male nurses here in NZ, it's sad that he feels diffident about it.) AND, as if that's not enough, he's a firefighter/paramedic as well...

Can't tell you what to do but the very best of luck to ya!
