  1. Poor Mi went to the vet this morning! He was one unhappy little guy. Cried the whole way there and refused to come out from his carrier once we got in with the vet. He got his DCR booster shot, his feline leukemia booster and his rabies booster and growled and hissed the whole time. Then, to add insult to injury, Vettie weighed him - "little" Mi is 13 pounds!!!!
The vet checked his belly and concluded that Mi is just fat - there's nothing wrong with his stomach. He did say we'll have to keep an eye on his weight though. No kidding!

Poor Mi is back home and feeling sorry for himself. Bobby is hiding and is no comfort to him at all. He got a couple of treats and I put his new rabies tag on his collar and told him how handsome he looks. Now I'm hoping he'll forgive me!

  2. awww Mi. Scritches and kisses to you little Milo baby..He will always be little Mi.

  3. Awwww. poor Milo. Mommy made him go get his shots, and if that wasn't bad enough that man call Vet made fun of his belly.. Milo needs a ego boost.. please give him some headbonks from me.

  4. Hugs for sweet Milo. Not fat, just plump!

  5. Fat kitties...all the more to snuggle and love and tickle :-) Hermes... holy cow, he's got to be over 25 pounds. Almost afraid to take him to the vet and get him weighed. Might break the baby scale :-)

  6. Plump, indeed, TL! :)
I was my fault, 2b - I asked Vettie to check his fat belly.
Poor Mi hasn't been to the vet in a year and had no idea what was going on. He was SO scared! After we were done, he hopped off the table and tried to hide in a corner. Vettie tried to get him, but he wouldn't let him. I finally told Vettie to put the carrier on the floor in front of him since he'd probably want to go in there and feel relatively safe. He ran right in!

Bobby is due for his booster shots in June they told me. He has no refills left on his meds and only about one week's worth left. I'm hoping the vet will give me enough pills to last until June so I can combine the visits for him and also not have to shell out more money right after spending $125 on Mi today.

  7. Uh oh, Hermes! :)
The rest of Mi isn't big, though - just his belly. It can't be too healthy for him :(

  8. A little Mi bowling ball with legs :) My nephew and his wife has a cat like that..Snickers looked like a walking bowling ball..she's so cute..she did lose some of the weight though.

  9. More exercise for Milo - can you pinch a treadmill from the gym? ;o)

Posted 2 years ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #

  10. Hmmmm, probably now, MCW. I'll just have to take him with me and let him work out there. One of the trainers brings in his boxer every now and then.

I have to figure out how to feed Mi less without starving Bobby. I have no idea!!!

  11. I have the same problem GD. Blackbeard is getting a lot of "junk in his trunk" but BooBoo and Betty are still very slim. If I go anywhere near the kitchen Blackbeard always escorts me, so there is no way I could feed the girls without him.

  12. Ohhh, poor Mi! I do love fat cats, but I know it isn't healthy for them to be too pudgy :) I'm sure Mi is very humiliated...don't you just hate to take them into the vet?? I always feel like such a traitor, especially when I have to leave them there!!!

  13. Poor Blackbeard and poor Milo!
I'mhoping now that Mi has started venturing outside, maybe at least he'll get a bit more exercise and that'll help. I don't really know what else to do. Bobby is a grazer and wanders over to eat a bit every hour or so. I can't not leave food down for him or just feed them a couple of times a day because Bobby doesn't eat enough in one sitting. Arrrgh!

Posted 2 years ago by GreatDane #

  14. Can you get a "lite" dry food to put down for them both (ours are grazers too, so I understand the problem), then top up Bobby's diet with extra snacks on the side?

Posted 2 years ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #

  15. a good way for cats to lose wieght is to feed only wet/raw food. the "diet" or "lite" foods don't work. so it is easy to put one cat on a diet and the other can still be getting the same food. if you still want your cats to have access to a little bit of food throughout the day hide some freeze dried chicken around the house and have them 'hunt' for it.

i know i always give links from little big cat but it is very well written and researched.

  16. Poor Mi...he's not fat, he's fluffy ;)

Posted 2 years ago by Crazycatman - CA #

  17. Exactly, CCM! Sylvester says he isn't fat even though he weighs 16lbs. I love my big kitty but I worry about his getting arthritis later on. Mia is a tiny 8lbs and I worry that she isn't eating enough. She looks too thin to me but then I guess with big Sylvester, Mia would look too thin. How we worry about our kitty's health.

  18. Awwwww...Poor Milo may be mad right now but he loves his meowmy and brother Bobby sooooo much. He'll be back to his old self in no time. What a lucky little (hmmm) boy to be so loved and cared for! =)

  19. Well, he seems to have forgiven me! Yay! Lots of headbonking going on.

MCW, I am feeding them both light dry food. FF50 - unfortunately Bobby only eats dry food. He'll lick at a bit of wet food at night, but if that was all I fed he, he'd never get enough to eat. Bob eats more often now because he's on phenobarbital and gets hungry. He's a healthy 10 lbs and I don't want him to go hungry.

CCM, I like that - he's just fluffy! I'll tell him that and make him feel better :)

  20. is there a differant dry food that you could feed then besides any light food? light cat food cuts back on the protein and fat which may work for people but not cats. it is the complete opposite actually of what a cat needs to be on a diet. light foods increase the carbs making a cat fat. a good dry food to help cats lose wieght is not going to be light, but grain free or another high quality food. you have to be careful though with foods that have lots of meat like that because of all the calories which means you should feed measured amounts even if it is left out all day.

mikey, one of my house cats, was a non wet food eater. he wouldn't even look at any wet food. i finally just found one type of wet food he will eat - fancy feast gourmet chicken. not even any other fancy feast flavors, just that one.

marty, another one of my housecats, wouldn't eat wet food either until i started to do differant things to the wet food to make him think of it as food. tricks that worked for him to make him start eating wet:

    1) mix up the wet with hot water and make it wet food soup.
    2) crush up some dry and sprinkle it on top
    3) put some freeze dried chicken (marty's favorite) in the middle of the wet food (has to be pate wet food) so he had to eat wet food to get to it
    4) mix a tiny bit of catnip into it
    5) try all differant types of wet food, cats can be picky (such as mikey is) but any wet is better than no wet. some cats will only eat the meat chuncks, others only the loaf style, others loaf with meat chuncks, and others just gravy. some cats won't eat any with fish in it.
    6) cats that are obsessed with the gravy in wet food, make the whole thing gravy consistency by mixing it very well with some warm water.

  21. Aw, poor Milo :( He and George are just about the same weight (George is 14 pounds!), but the vet said his weight was OK because he's pretty big, in a long-legged, jackrabbity kind of way.

Milo, momma didn't mean to scare you, she just wants to take care of you.

  22. Aww..poor Milo..glad he is over it and giving you headbonks. Scritchies to him and Bobby.

  23. Poor Mi isn't feeling well after the shots yesterday. He's been sleeping since we got home 20 hrs. ago, only getting up to use the litterbox. I haven't seen him eat anything other than the treats I gave him yesterday and a bit of wet food last night. This morning, he refused to eat his treats and got up and went and hid under the ottoman.
It also seems he has a fever :(

I have to run and play my match at ten. Won't be home til 1:30 or 2:00. If he's no better by then, I think I'll call the vet. I've had both Bobby and Mi be tired after shots before, but this seems a bit more than usual and it's very unlike Mi not to eat.

  24. When RT got her shots, she always felt lousy the next day. We all knew to just leave her alone until she felt better (that or get smacked, the girl could hit really hard).

Posted 2 years ago by NNGM #

  25. Awwww, RT!
My guys have been tired before, but never gotten feverish. Poor Mi - he looks miserable. Bobby is leaving him alone - he knows his little bro isn't feeling well.

  26. GD
Give my nephews hugs and kisses from me! Hi Bobster and Milo(Poor baby)
Milo remember Meowma is doing all this to make you a strong healthy fat cat!

  27. Awww..Poor Milo! Sending hugs and purrs to sweet Mi!!!! {{{Milo}}}

  28. WIll give the boys hugs and kisses from you, Dorie and Karen!

Poor Mi is still not feeling great. He went under the ottoman this morning when I left around 9:15 and he was still there when I got home at almost four. His little ears felt less hot to the touch, so the fever seems to have gone down. Still very sleepy, though!

Posted 2 years ago by GreatDane #

  29. Aww...hugs for Mi Mi and a smooch for Bobby.

Posted 2 years ago by Buttercup #

  30. Shadz sends a hug and headbonk for poor wee Mi. She had a shoulderful of anitbiotics last week as she was sneezing lots and her nose was mucus filled. She's better now and says to Mi he'll feel happier soon.
