  1. I brought my older cat home from the vet tonight - he'd had an overgrown claw removed (yes, I think I missed it in the last few trimmings) from his paw. Immediately, he removed the bandage and has been licking at it, but my biggest problem is that my other cat is now terrorizing him quite visciously. First she seemed as though she didn't recognize him and was crouching, then she started hissing almost constantly. Now (about 2 hours later) she is swatting, hissing, chasing, pouncing and it *looks* and sounds as though she is NOT playing.

Some background in case it helps give me advice:
Cat A: almost 10, indoor his whole life, perfect health.
Cat B: 3 years old, indoor her whole life and now - just acquired her back in October 2008.

Of course, there was an adjustment when she first came, but they seemed to settle nicely. They tumble around often, but he was clearly dominant and would back off to a point. They both sleep with me, near each other, but don't cuddle and they follow me around like dogs. They stand next to each gazing out the patio door . . .

So, I'm wondering what could be going on here. Is it just because he is "wounded"? Does she smell the blood on his injury and it's making her INSANE?

Any help is appreciated - husband, myself & teen are supposed to gone all day tomorrow and I'm super worried that there will be a throw down.

  2. I imagine she smells the "vet" on him!..... she's probably reacting to that!.... you might want to bathe him and wrap him in a familiar towel or shirt that smells like your home and yourselves.... most likely as the vet smell wears off, she will settle down....((hugs)) poor baby!

  6. It seems like they've lost their minds at first, like they have never seen each other before. But I've experienced this several times, and it's quite usual. Not to worry. Welcome to TDK!!!

  7. Question.
im getting my cat declawed the fifth of october, mom's allergic to the scratches so it's a good reason to get it done right?

  8. Hi, Leesha. Kitten Master has asked us not to discuss declawing on this website. People feel quite strongly in favor of and against declawing. Ultimately, you have to make the best decision for yourself. You might want to do some research about this topic online. If you do declaw your cat, please don't let it go outside. It won't be able to defend itself from other animals.

BTW, welcome to the Daily Kitten. :)

  9. As KW said declawing is not a topic open to discussion. Please research your options carefully with your mom. If a radical proceedure is your only option, perhaps a less drastic tendonectomy can be your solution.

    What About a Tendonectomy?

Kitty will still have to be strictly and indoor cat.

  10. What about soft paws? Same result, no vets' bills, much less drastic and kitty will look so cute.

I'm not going to discuss declawing. I'm just going to say please don't.

  12. They are little covers that go over kitty's claws, I think. I've never tried them; just saw them in Drs. Foster & Smith catalog. They come in lots of colors!

  13. Leesha, the website AIluromaniac posted above talks about them and I think maybe has a link. They are like little false nails for kitties!
