  1. Hi all! I'm new here but I really need some advice from those with experience. I have a 5 week old kitten. He's the cutest thing you've ever seen. He was separated from his mother a few days ago when she passed. He's eating great and he's learning very quickly (two days ago he couldn't get out of his little box now he jumps in and out at will!). My problem is, I've gotten him to pee in his little litter box but I haven't gotten him to poop. He's drinking KMR. How do I get him to poop?

Also, I have a 4 year old cat and she seems to be curious about the little guy. She will sit at the door of the room I keep him in and try to stick her paw under or she'll try to come behind him and smell him but each time they come in contact with each other one of them hisses (can't figure out which one) and my adult cat runs away. She seems a bit afraid of him. She'll watch him from a few feet away and she'll even get comfortable just watching him but when he comes near she'll run and maybe try to come up behind him and sniff him. Should I let the two of them work it out or continue to keep them separated?

  2. ..... your female cat might just the solution.... if she's curious, and not agressive, her maternal instincts might be "kicking in"... especially if she's trying to sniff his behind.... baby kittens must be "stimulated" so that they will poop - the mother will do this by licking their little bottoms.....hissing at first is normal, he probably doesnt' recognize her smell, and visa versa...... I say let them interact, with you closely monitoring at first...... she may just take over as the "new Mom"!.....

....if not, you will need to stimulate him... use a warm washcloth and gently rub his little anus.... think of imitating Momma cat licking him... then put him in the litter box.... it make take a few tries, but it should do the trick.... be very gentle, you don't want to "rub him raw"!....

Best of luck and welcome to TDK!... I hope you post pics!

  3. I would post pics but I don't know how lol. But I rubbed his anus which is how I got him to pee. What I usually do is feed him then sit him in his litter box and rub his anus after which he usually pees but he has yet to go #2. Another thing, idk if he's supposed to do this but he makes a little meow when he's going. First he'll sit there in the little position then he makes a little yelp noise (not a cry, not very loud, just a meow) and he'll pee. He won't cover it up or anything. He'll just walk out of the box. Then I'll kiss him and play with him. Is this normal? Could he be constipated perhaps?

  4. Although my kittens are about a week or so behind yours, the meow at the initial part of stimulation is normal, as in mine do it. Secondly, don't worry too much over not pooping every time, as mine don't either. The key would be to keep an eye on the color, consistency of when he does go and how active he is.
