My cat had 5 kittens this friday morning. 4 are doing very well, but one will not latch on to momma, and after we use a dropper and feed it KMR it barely moves. When we move the group around to check them they will move back together again but this one will wait a while then join the group, sometimes not joining at all. I don't have enough money to buy tests at the vet. Is there anything I tell the vet to test for specifically? Should I take it to the vet? I just don't know what more I can do.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is much that you can do. Check the skeletal structure with your fingers. Keep trying with the KMR. It sounds like you may have a case of FK (Fading Kitten) on your hands. Keep putting the kitten with momcat so she doesn't reject him. If it is FKS, there is not very much you can do, and a vet won't be able to help you either, but if you can afford it, it's always good to have one's opinion.
I'm sorry about the bad news, but don't lose hope! Runts can pull through; many of us own ex-runts!

Thanks for your advice, but the kitten passed away last night. Do I take it to the vet to be disposed of?

So sorry you lost the kitten. Unfortunately nature has a harsh way of dealing with weaklings. I don't know about US, but in UK the vet charges about £30 for kittie cremations. If you have a garden it's cheaper and easier to bury the baby yourself.

Cody - so sorry you lost one of the kittens, sometimes it ahppens through absolutley NO FAULT on your part. It sounds like mamacat is doing a good job with the rest. You just need to be sure to have her spayed after the litter is weaned, and be sure to get the necessary shots for the kittens. Hvae you started looking around for homes for the little ones yet, or will you be keeping the.? You could check with a local shelter or rescue group about low cost options fof both of those - our local SPCA shelter has been pushing spay/neuter and offering very low cost options to make it poosible for all!

Cody - a vet will charge a lot for cremation - I would find a nice spot in the ayrd and put the kitten there...
