Yeah, I wish that I could ride a road bike but I have scoliosis and I just can't bend over onto the handle bars like you have to on a road bike. I've done two rides in the past two weeks with the bike club but they were pretty short, 17 miles and 13 miles. And the speed was kept to no more than 12 mph so it was an easy ride. But I was the only female on an "uncool" bike - and a girls bike to boot. Plus, I changed the saddle to something wider and more comfortable. I didn't have any trouble keeping up with them, though. But, as soon as we got home I told Mr. WWM to take that stinkin' bell off of my handle bars because it totally makes me look like a weenie.....

In UK it is illegal to ride a bike on the road unless you have "Audible means of warning of approach", in other words a bell, hooter or something similar. Your own ability to yell doesn't count!

LOL, WWM! I actually had a bell put on my bike because people couldn't hear me coming on the sidewalk even when I yelled at them. Much easier with a bell!
As for the saddle, I need a padded one or my butt hurts!Okay, I went to the store to replenish my supply of yogurt. Now I'm chosing from reading my book, cleaning out my closet and trying to find clothes that fit (way too many baggy clothes comments this last week), setting up a pet-sitting page on Facebook, selling some things on E-Bay or Amazon - or going to pet Bobby's belly. Hmmmm.....
I should probably do the pet-sitting page and get that done before sommer and vacations really start. A lot of my local facebook friends (mostly tennis acquaintances) don't know that I pet-sit, so this is a good way to get the word out. I mentioned that I dog-sit the other day on FB just to see what would happen and it looks like I picked up another costumer from that alone :) -
GD, how could you pass up petting Bobby's belly??? LOL Happy Memorial Day to all, thank you to you and yours if you are/were military! I will have a very well done cheeseburger, extra cheese, with ketchup and mustard. I will also have some of those outstanding beans and mac-n-cheese. I am certainly not GD but since Jan 1 I have lost 24lbs. 11 since surgery. Only thing is I am so jiggly. I think tomorrow I might start with a 10 or 15 minute walk. I need to start getting these muscles built back up. Funny thing was the NeuroSurgeon said to me before surgery: "You have been a very muscular person in the past haven't you?" I wondered how he looked at someone as jiggly as me and saw that. Thank goodness I "bulk" up very fast! Reading up last night I am gonna need it to support my head neck and shoulders for the rest of my life due to no first vertebrae. What does everyone have in store today?

WWM, hope you come back here. Question: Will Vitamin E oil on my head/neck scar help with keeping the scar minimal? I am already getting a thick, ropey scar back there that is painful. I used the VitE oil on abdominal scars and it worked but I have never had one this big and thick.

Ah-hemmm - MC, may I suggest that you start out slowly? Like maybe walking down the driveway and back? After all, you have been a little under the weather :-) and, although 10 - 15 minutes doesn't sound like much, I'm willing to bet that you would be pretty wiped out afterwards.
GD, the bell that I have is one of those little ones that you flip with your thumb. It doesn't make much noise at all. Now, a big ole' air horn......

Good morning, TDKers!!! Boo Hoo--I'm at work, too. Only 187 students are absent today, though. ;) This is a make-up day for having a snow day in January. I would've loved to have stayed home today because I didn't sleep well. Actually, I discovered the 'John & Kate Plus 8' marathon on TLC. I'd never seen the show and now love it! It's currently being recorded so that I don't miss any of it--how lame, huh? Hope everyone has a great day---I have tons to do since it's the last week of school.
I need more info. about your diet, GD. Anything that involves yogurt (esp. peach) has to be good!

Oh, I just saw that, MC. Yes, Vitamin E should help but be gentle and rub it in with a circular motion. Maybe three times a day. If you don't have any Vit E oil, you can even break open a Vit E capsule.
Some people prefer Aloe Vera, but I worked in surgery for quite a while and I do think that Vit E is better to help break down that underlying scar tissue.

FH, not sure you want GD's diet! I know the poor thing has had a tough time of her rather "bland" diet. But I am PROUD of her! She has done so well! WWM, I was thinking the 10-15 mins was going to be up and down the driveway to the mailbox and no more! Who am I kidding? I go to the basement and have to sit down when I get to the bottom. I wouldn't go down there at all if I didn't need some clean socks and undies. I have brought up enough for at least a week so I don't have to 'rush' down there again!

Eewww - that sucks being at work,FH!!! Isn't that unAmerican on a day like today? And I don't think that you want to follow GD's diet, as it involves getting an ulcer.

Thanks WWM. I have a bottle of VitE oil from WalMart and a kids paintbrush. I have an almost foot long scar that is really getting stiff already. I know about scar massage from my therapist's that work for me. I am in way too much pain to do that yet but want to keep ahead of the curve until I can do or have one of my therapist's do scar massage.

MC, do you feel like you need a neck brace in this early post-op stage? I wonder if that would help you feel more secure that your neck is stable? Of course, there could be a reason why you wouldn't want to use one - I'm just so not familiar with this type of surgery.
I hope that you aren't getting a keloid scar back there :-( But Vit E could help to soften even a keloid scar.

I want a neckbrace and the surgeon to try go without one. He wants to keep the most range of motion in my neck muscles possible. He said that if I absolutely wanted one I could get a soft collar. He said working in therapy I would know what to order and I do. I do range of motion exercises several times per day to help too!

Yeah, it is UnAmerican, isn't it? I at least showed my disdain by wearing jeans today--we're only allowed to wear them on Fridays. I figured that they can suspend me if they want! ;)
Glad to see that you're more mobile today, MC. I still think you should shave your head--the Sinead O'Connor look is quite unique! ;)

Hi, MC, CM, Kilroy, FH, WWM, GD, PM, KC and AV!
I am feeling grateful to the men and women who serve or have served in the military for all the freedoms I enjoy today and every day. A huge thank you to each one of you!
MC, it is so good to see you back to posting. I'm glad they didn't remove you sense of humor spot in your brain! lol

Hello all from t'other side of the pond!
Been a somewhat cloudy Bank Holiday Monday over here, very different to yesterday when pretty much the whole country basked in glorioius sunshine! Still, at least it's dry :o)

Mr. WWM just got home from the bike ride and announced that every male who is a bicycle rider in the Permian Basin must be extremely self-assured in their masculinity because there were 750 motorcycle bikers at the Vietnam Memorial in leather. The bike riders were in spandex!

Popping in after brunch with daughter, who detoured me through the mall, which resulted in my now empty wallet :( *how DID she talk me into that?*....
Nice to see the Cafe so busy this morning, must be a lot of people off for the holiday!..... going to my painting class now, will be back on later to chat...
... laughing at WWM's bell on her bike.... does it have a basket on the front with flowers on it too?.......snickers!
-
LOL @ WWM! Bikers in spandex!

*Considers getting a basket to put on handlebars and putting a little dog in it... just like the Wicked Witch of the West*

Well, I don't know if Windi would want to ride in a basket! Willow would probably worry that I would fall down!
At least Mr. WWM's spandex is manly - actually, he looks like a walking (or riding) Army recruiter. His bike jersey is bright yellow with the big Army A on it and says "Army Strong". His bike shorts have "Army Strong" down the sides and even his socks are Army socks! He's not intimidated by any stinkin' leather wearing Harley rider!

I think you need those plastic streamers to come out of each handle grip on your bike, WWM. :D

Oooooo - I had forgotten about streamers!!!!!!

And don't forget those multi color spoke covers on the tires! I LOVED those as a kid!

WWM---are you gonna put some cards in the spokes of your wheels so that you'll make a cool sound as you're riding? ;)

I remember those, FH.
I've got to go help unload groceries from the car. Enjoy the day!
