So my friend and i found this kitten yesterday and it's about 6-8 weeks old we're thinking. it's been raining for a few days now, but we picked up this kitten cause it looks as if it's been roughing it for a few days now on it's own. it's covered in fleas and has a giant sore near it's back leg and it's full of maggots. i have put hydrogen peroxide on it and have used tweezers to pick some out but they have appead to have made tunnels in the moist flesh. i shaved off all the eggs i found in the fur. i have it outside for i have 2 animals of my own. a pregnant cat who is soon about to give birth and a dog so i can't bring this kitten in the house not knowing if it has anything. but the wet weather has kept flies around that tend to bother the cat. i have NO MONEY, i'm only 15 and my parents won't take it to the vet. i really want this kitten to live and find it a good home. so if there's any advice as to how i can get rid of these maggots please let me know. there are maybe 50 living in this sore and have made tunnels in it. he needs help.

Soxsmom is right, Desi--this kitten must get to a vet now--and you may have to understand that the only thing a vet may be able to do is to end it's misery. Maggots are very painful to an animal. Please see if you can find a way to get it to the vet ASAP.

Desi - call the local SPCA or an animal rescue group in your area and see if you can bring the kitten in today - someone will be there because the animals have to b fed... Do it now! mThey may be able to deal with the probelm right on site - he deserves a chance, and you can give it to him. So proud of you for wanting to help! Keep us posted please!

sometimes a shelter will euthanise an animal for a donation of pet food or cat litter or something like that. A lot of times they will do it for free, the amount of euthanasia solution it takes for a small kitten is very inexpensive.
Poor kitten :( :( I can't imagine how painful that leg is and he is still purring...

yea he is really strong for his condition, he can jump and climb still, and doesn't act like his wound phases him at all, but i am going to see what i can do to make his life as comfortable as possible and if that means putting him down i am going to see what i can do about that. but thanks for all your support and help. i have tried to contact the spca and got a recording so i left a message. i'm going to wait about an hour before i take any action in ending this kittens misery by death.

sorry if i am missing the mark here but please do not try to end this kitties suffering at home. This needs to be done by a vet. Take the kitten to your local human society and tell them the situation, with a wound like that I almost guarantee they will not turn you down even if you do not have any money.

Hi Desi, welcome to TDK Chat. You sound like a very kind hearted young woman, and I know you're trying to do your best by this poor little kitten. It's very likely the vet won't be able to do anything but end his suffering (and I'd be extremely surprised if they charged anything for this), but please take some comfort from knowing the little one experienced love, even if only for a short time.

thank you that's very comforting to know. i'm going to miss the little guy, because i have watched him over night and played with him a little this morning. he's still very active and full of life. but there's nothing i can do anymore, so i am going to be taking him soon to an animal shelter and ask them to please put him down and offer what little money i have. i'm hoping for the best.

here's the latest. i took him to an emergency animal hospital and explained my situation to the lady at the desk and they had me sign him over and told me that they would run a few tests to see if he had a chance with a cheap operation and if not that they would put him down. i appeciate all the advice help and support and i will continue to chat with you all for my cat will be giving birth to kittens soon. here is a pick of the kitten that i signed over, i named him chance. <img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z135/jesscuh32/chance009.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> i love you chance! the link to the pic is on my best friends photobucket, jessica.

Desi - in messages when a name or initials are inside brackets, paraentheses or anything like that it means you are being hugged! You did the right thing, and Chance may just have one because you were willing to step in. Did the emergency vet say whether you could call to see what had happened to him? Be sure to come back on site whenever you want to share anything kitten/cat related... or anything else really - you can see from some of the other threads that many topics are discussed and shared... {{{Desi and Chance}}}

oh ok haha.. and no she didn't but i'm sure i can. i had to give my number when i signed him over and they're suppose to call and let me know what happened. but if i find out further information i will defiantely let you all know. i hope he makes it, in fact i have a feeling he will. and she said if he does he will be cleaned and put up for adoption because he is very sweet and use to humans even though i found him as a stray. i will keep you all updated with him and my cat and her soon to be arriving kittens. (=
