Worried about finding a job

  1. I've been out of work for 5 months now. I've put out God knows how many resumes, and have only had four interviews. The last one was on May 15, and I was told they would make a decision by the end of last week. (May 22.) Here it is May 26, and they still haven't made a decision. (I've called them.)

I've cried since I got off the phone with them. I'm wondering if I'll ever get another job. I'm experienced and good at what I do; I don't understand why I'm not getting anywhere.

Can someone please just hold me and tell me it'll be all right??

  2. It's going to be okay... just keep looking and don't give up. It's difficult for anybody to find a job right now, but things will get better.

    *hugs*

I will be praying for you .. that you find a job soon.

  3. (((Bellantara))) I am so sorry it has been so hard to find a job. Just keep plugging away.

There are some new trends in resume writing and re-vamping your resume a bit may help. These days, instead of putting an objective at the top of your resume, do a summary of what you specifically bring to the table for that specific job. It should be a one paragraph on what makes you the best thing since sliced bread and the rest of the resume supports that. Also make sure you include complete contact information for at least two references. The line "References available upon request" is very 20 years ago and people hiring don't want to have to contact applicants to check references. They want to be able to check references before they everr set up interviews. We are all still rooting for you!

{{Bella}} I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. It's positive that you're making it to the interview stage, but I'm sure that just makes it harder when things don't work out. Is there some way you could do a mock interview with someone you trust? Maybe there's something in your interview technique that could be improved.

  8. Hiring Managers are also looking at $ signs. How much bang (value you bring) for my buck (your salary) will I get? One way to prove hiring you will pay for itself is to highlight your skills in little vignettes detailing the challenge met, the innovation or process that improved the procedures, the cost benefit to the previous employer.

e.g. Improved process of ordering databases for field operations. Individual downloads were ordered in a 6 step process using 3 minutes per database. Defined an order process using 3 steps saving 2 minutes per database. Average man hr savings in process 3 hrs per week. Estimated savings to company $1560 per yr.

Vignettes can highlight any innovation that shows creativity (thinking outside the box) even if the particular skill is not specific to the job you want.

e.g. Assumed responsibility for costuming a play after Costume director destroyed notes and quit. Completed design selection and new construction of wardrobe for cast of large Musical in 2 weeks. Resulted in Play opening on schedule saving $6000 in box office receipts that would require return if play canceled.

  10. Bella, it's always tough to hear of someone we know having a hard time finding a job. I agree with AM above...look outside the box for what you do that means something different for the job you are seeking. Be honest, but be willing to do more than the job requires.

  12. {{{{{{Bella}}}}}} You don't think your ex-boss (he was the slightly odd attorney, wasn't he?) is sabotaging you, do you? It's more likely just the economy.

The TDK White Light will help. It's very strong.

  13. Don't forget to network. Call all you old friends and acquaintances from rival practices and ask what is out there.
