Good evening! I don't know if you remember but Ms. Kitty presented me with a little siamese kitten the day after we got back. Just one! Well, Ms. Kitty is a wonderful mom and the little one is thriving. I am planning on bringing it into the house when it is weaned. Hope the boys will accept it. Today when I came home for lunch I saw a strange grey "something" in an empty food dish. It was a new baby, all alone. I searched the yard and found one of my ferals had some kittens. She had separated herself from this one. I placed it as close to her as she would let me. She is truly feral and not at all tame. Her name is Brenda Lee (courtesy of Abbey). She has been around for about 3 years. Anyway I counted 4 total, one siamese looking one, one black and white, one grey tabby and the little grey one I found. I had to go back to work and the afternoon was torture! When I got home she had moved them. I found the little grey one. It must have been unhealthy and had already crossed over the bridge. I did not see Brenda Lee anywhere but managed to find the kittens. Only 2 left! The siamese and the black and white. I have no idea where the little tabby went. Perhaps it was also unhealthy. I'm pretty sad about losing 2. Bless their little hearts. The remaining 2 look healthy and Brenda Lee appears to be taking care of them. Ms. Kitty has moved her kitten to the other side of the yard and is doing very well. I want to check on the little bitties but I do not want to spook Brenda Lee. I guess I will just have to have patience! Please hold a good thought for us and pray that the remaining 2 manage to survive. I know that my kits that have gone before a waiting for these little ones but it is so hard. Lets hope that they make it. These kitties bring me so much joy but it is so sad when I lose one or two.

Puddytat's new kitten

I am so sorry for the loss of the kittens Puddytat. It seems unjust that they didn't get to live longer. For their short time here they were loved. Mother Nature can seem cruel. Prayers for the 3 that are left, may they continue to thrive and grow. Prayers to you too Puddytat for caring for the ferals, they are sometimes forgotten or unloved.

Oh Puddytat, I am sorry about the 2 babies. I hope the remaining ones grow up healthy and safe. Bless you for taking care of the mommies and their babies.

I'm sorry for the loss of two. They probably weren't healthy to start with and the guardian of the Rainbow Bridge realized they didn't belong on earth and took them home.
I hope you can catch, neuter and release the feral mamas. There's so many kittens that won't ever have a furrever home; it just depresses me to think how many more there will be.

I have been lucky with Ms. Kitty. I have been her guardian for about 5 years and she has only had 3 litters. Her first litter was 4, one did not make it and the other 3, Wilbur, T-Do and George all live with Abbey and I. Her second she had 1, my little special needs kitty, Ripley who I still have and now this 1. She is so crafty and smart. I put out "tender traps" for her and she will sit on top of it! I even put tuna fish in it and she will lay down beside it and dip her paw and lick it! I have made progress...she will now allow me to touch her! Brenda Lee is just wild, can't approach her or heaven forbid, touch her. I have been lucky enough to place almost all the kits that have come to me. I get all fixed before they move on. My last hold outs are Ms. Kitty and Brenda Lee. I am not going to give up but it takes so much patience. Keep your fingers crossed for me! One of these days I will catch Ms. Kitty and she will have her spa day. Brenda Lee, who knows, I will do my best!

It sounds like you have made progress with Ms. Kitty. She is getting closer and closer to a spa date! Let patience prevail and Brenda Lee will hopefully come around. In the meantime you are doing all you can--bless you. Are you looking forward to that new grandchild? This has to be an exciting time for everyone!

I can't wait! It has just been Abbey and I since she was 18 months old. She started college with me when she was three and went all the way through my graduate degree. Then came sweet Jason. He is a wonderful son-in-law. He is kind and understanding. I am blessed that he can appreciate how close we are. It has been an adjustment for me but he has made it so easy. I know that they are going to be such wonderful parents. There is so much love in our family that this little baby will be blessed and well loved. January 6 sounds like a long way off to me! My most heartfelt wish right now is that she begins to feel better! It is hard for me to see her so uncomfortable and sick. Please keep her in your thoughts. Thanks so much for asking!

PT - hope the rest of the kits remain healthy and nearby... I know what you mean about Ms Kitty being too smart. When I trapped Hester (pregnant) a while back, I also tried to catch Loot (the aledged daddycat). He moved into the yard with my Merlin (neutered) after Katrina, but in almost 4 years I have not been able to touch him, and when I put out a live trap for Hester, I watched him walk into it, step over the tripping mechanism, eat the food bait and walk out!!!! Way to smart! But I am going to try and get him again this summer!

AW, PT! So sorry about the babies! I guess Heaven needed some new kitty guardian angels. I know it is so difficult to lose little ones so young. It seems so cruel. I have all the faith in the world that you will do well by the remaining kits! Congrats on the human baby too!

Went home for lunch to check the kittens. It is not looking too good. The little b&w stripe was really meowing and had himself in a milk crate about 3 feet away from where he started. No sign of the little cream one. I checked the hole in the fence and he was next door! I went next door and got him. The are both pretty dehydrated and hungry. Poo all over their little backsides. No sign of that stinkin Brenda Lee. I put them in a box in the same place and gave them some KMR. I am trying to remain positive but if Brenda Lee does not come to them this afternoon I doubt they will make it. I loved on them and cuddled them and placed them next to each other in the box. This is breaking my heart.

Awww, it is so sad. I have seen it happen many times with the ferals I took care of--entire litters would die one by one. The mom will move the surviving ones away from the spot where the other died. A few years back 2 moms gave birth within days of each other, total of 9 kittens--all perished by the end of two weeks. It always breaks your heart, many here on TDK have been through it. {{{HUGS}}}

You folks are not going to believe this!!! The 2 babies left survived the day! Momma did not come back. When I got home I mixed up some KMR and fed them with an eyedropper (my bottle is missing). With a tiny bit of stimulation we have urine. I washed them as best I could. They were covered in what I think was feces but it is better now. I have them in a box and they are sleeping. I have no idea how long they will live but I am not going to give up. I am so amazed that they survived the afternoon. Please keep that white light coming for these tiny orphans.

YAY babies! You are super strong and your meowma loves you so much!!!! Never underestimate the strength of the TDK family PT! You know we are one strong group! Now leave Ms. Kitty alone! LOL

MC...How are you darlin? I have included you in my thoughts everyday. I'm sure that you will come back strong. Thanks for the comments on the babies. That hussy Brenda Lee did not even bite off the umbulicus. I decided to wash them as best I could to get the poo off of them. I don't care if she does not like it. I have not seen her today at all. The odds are pretty long but I have been cuddling them and talking to them and have been rewarded with loud meows. They are just so tiny. I keep telling myself to keep the faith. Perhaps all of mine that have "gone on" are looking down and hoping for survival of the precious babies. Me too! You keep up the good healing and rest. Love you. Sending lots of purrs, hugs and white light to you. Wilbur and T-Do send headbonks!

OMG, sending tons of white light and prayers your way. Maybe Momma is injured.

Momma is a tramp! This is the second time she has done this. The first time I found a surrogate to nurse the babies. No such luck this time. I just got back from the vet school where I picked up a new nursing bottle and some new kmr. They ate beautifully and peed and pooped! I put a ziplock with hot water in the box and now they are curled up asleep. Keep the white light coming! Let hope they make it through the night.

Any chance Ms Kitty would take them on??? Here's hoping you have two hungry kits crying in the AM...what a lovely sound!

Good luck with these tiny kittens. I agree with NC. If Ms Kitty only has one kitten, she might be willing to take on two more. Can you get close to Ms. Kitty's baby and gently rub it with a piece of cloth. You could then rub it on the two orphans. That might help her "recognize" them as hers. :) Wouldn't that be a great outcome?!

Just finished the midnight feeding and replaced the hot water source. Kits are sleeping well. Brenda Lee did show up...she ate, drank and totally ignored the babies. What a tramp! Ms. Kitty investigated but had no interest. Tomorrow I will try to introduce them by smell. My wishes are for baby kit hungry crying in the morning. I'm off to bed. Thanks for all the positive energy. I have the alarm set for 3:30 am. Hope that they are still with me.
-
Puddytat, what an angel you are!!! Just a suggestion, do you think there is any chance that Ms.Kitty would adopt Brenda Lee's kittens?

Both are still with me. They made it through the night. (Don't know so much about me!!!) I tried an introduction to Ms. Kitty with a cloth, my hands, and the babies. She is not having any of it! Well, I had to try. They look so tiny and fragile. Who knows what I will find at lunch.
-
PT - worth a try... Here's hoping they are ready and waiting for you and the bottle, or even better, latched onto Ms Kitty!

Update! The little ones are still alive. I am worried they will not take the bottle at all. Loose stools but I have been able to get fluids into them. Even though they are not looking too good, I am not going to give up. I will continue to try and keep them clean and warm. I wish Ms. Kitty would take some interest but she is just a one kitten mama. Her little baby is fat, happy, bright eyes and clean. I guess I should count that as a victory. Please keep us in your thoughts.
