  1. I think I posted something to the extent when I first got on here but binx's paw is still bloody and swollen. Hes always licking at it. I know it's to keep it clean but I think that every time it starts trying to heal he bites it bc it itches or something. Could I maybe try some neosporin on it but wrap it up so he cant get to it? Like some guaze and tape or even an ace bandage? I know I'd have to change it everyday or so but I really want his paw healed. It's driving me crazy. It's not infected btw!

  2. What does the vet say? Could there be a thorn in it? Or maybe it's a stress thing. If it's not healing, there's a reason for that.

    Putting a bandaid on a cat isn't very effective. They can chew through most everything. The only real way to keep them from licking something is to put an Elizabethan collar on them.

  3. I haven't had the chance to get to one. Finals are coming up and I have epilepsy so my dads been spending the money on me to pay for doc visits and my trips to the ER. If I got the collar could I put a bandage on it? I don't think itd be a thorn. We used to live in an all wooden floors house and when he was little we had a lazer and binx loved chasing it around. The house was old so the floors had some places where it was uneven. He'd run across it and his padding eventually started to tear. But his other back paw healed. I'm not sure if it's a stress thing. I can't think of anything that'd be stressing him out.

  4. I agree with CBM on the collar thing - get one from your pet store. Then clean the paw really well and make sure there's not a splinter. Put some neosporin on it, followed by gauze, and then wrap the whole thing in an ace bandage like nobody's business. You will just have to keep wrapping it back up, though... cats hate that kind of thing.

  5. bb - you can use that stretchy tape stuff that comes in different colors - like some dr offices and blood banks use to hold gauze after drawing blood. it tears easily for application, and is lightweight. But the collar is a must, or it will be off in seconds! He will not be happy!

  6. You can make Elizabethan collars--lots of info on the web, although they are fairly inexpensive. I would really be interested in why this is happening. Uneven flooring shouldn't cause a pad to rip like that. I know it might be expensive but you should take your baby to the vet as soon as you can. He should have a check up and you can then talk to the vet about this bleeding paw issue, especially since you are saying it has gone on for a long time without resolution.

  7. You can get the stretchy gauze at a Feed Store much cheaper than even at a pet store.

  8. Awww..Poor Binx! Is it possible that he caught his little paw in a closing door or even had it accidentally stepped on? Poor baby. Once you have a collar on the little one I'd definitely pour some hydrogen pyroxide thoroughly over the paw then apply some neosporin. Maybe the spray type would be best since his paw is probably quite tender to the touch. Please keep us posted. {{{Binx}}}

  10. The floor story::when binx was still littlei moved in with my dad. It was an old house with all wooden flooring and he LOVED the laser. We'd always be shining it everywhere and he'd always be running after it. It happened to both of his paws so we stopped doing it. He'd occasionally run but then we moved and one healed up. I THINK the other one wasn't completely healed though. Our sliding glass door has metal that it slides on back and forth. He loves sitting there day after day and he will occasionally jump if he sees a bug on the door ((even if it's outside))....I think he lands half on the metal and half off. The metal isn't sharp. It's rounded off at the top so nothing gets hurt. But I'm pretty sure if you or I were to jump up and down on it a few times then our feet wouldn't be in good shape either. Also when he was a kitten he'd attempt to jump onto my bed. Usually he'd make it but sometimes he didn't. I have a ((yea it's getting repetitive)) metal bed frame that can roll. Once again it's not sharp either. I'll def look for the collar first. We have neo at home and gauze an ace bandage for when I get headaches so all I need is some of the tape stuff that I usually get when I get my blood drawn. I know where to get the hydro perox but where do I get the collar and where do I get the tape? Cuz I live in San diego and I don't think there's many feed stores around here. Is there a certain tightness I should wrap his foot? I don't wanna cut off any circulation. And thank you everyone!

  11. Totally forgot! I took him to the vet before we left nc for ca. He said just watch the paw and make sure it stays clean and that he doesn't run over any uneven flooring...well nobodys home during the day so we can't watch everything and we don't have uneven flooring. Were looking at new houses and that what I constantly check for before anything else. If the flooring is wood and it's uneven then I don't want to live there. I know it's weird but I'd rather live in the small house were in instead of being in a bigger one that'll hurt his feet.

  12. Sounds like Binx is incredibly playful...Hahah....Definitely...if you wrap anything around his paw do not wrap it too tightly. Did you get the Elizabethan collar for him yet? That will help alot in caring for his paw when he cannot interfere with healing meds. I don't think I'd leave him in the collar non stop til this injury heals.....it could take a very long time in lieu of the location....but maybe leave it on him for periods of time right after applying any neosporin or dipping it in peroxide. Then in a couple of hours remove it for a while once the treatments have had a jump on his own application of kitty treatments. If there is a piece of wood sliver trapped in the paw.....it may require a vet to remove it. I think I'd definitely put away the laser toy for awhile...Hahaha! Good luck! =)

  13. It could also be that his little paw is dried and chafed and it cracked. I have had that happen with pets. The neosporin should help with that as well. I would apply a couple of times a day. If his paw is irritated he may be over licking it or chewing it to try and get relief and that just makes it worse.

  14. I haven't had time yet. I've been studying über hard to pass my classes. I will look for one this weekend :) I dunno if there's any wood in there. I'll definitly check though. How should I go about cleaning it with peroxide? Cover him up? That's what I was thinking about him maybe over licking and chewing. That maybe it's trying to heal but he won't let it bc it itches. He is incredibly playful! Follows me everywhere, racing me up the stairs. All that jazz. I'll look for everything I don't have this weekend. I'll be going shopping with malia so I can look then :)

  15. ooohk!
    so i went to CVS today and got the sticky wrap stuff and hydro perox....binx did NOT like it! you could see how much dirt was in there bc it was constantly fuzzing. ((from the perox)) so i put neo on the gauze and then inbetween his toes. we wrapped the gauze onto his foot and my dad started with the sticky wrap. then i told my dad to wrap it with the ace bandage...binx has been GREAT about it since we let him down. he doesnt really mess with it that much and he walks on it ((so im guessing he hasnt lost circulation)) i need to check around my room though..i took the top off the litter box but i wanna make sure hes actually using the litter box..keep fingers crossed!!!!

  16. Binx has had this bleeding problem for over a month. You moved from hardwood to tile and he still has the problem. I wonder if he has something wrong with his paws? Maybe a trip to the vet is the next step. If his pads are really dry and cracking maybe there is something going on within him. I know a vet trip is so very expensive, but maybe it is time. Prayers that he heals.

  17. See if you can work out a payment plan with the vet; many of them are very understanding, and they will work with you. But you need to take the baby in.
