  2. How about Joan B?

Virgil Caine is my name and I drove on the Danville train
'til so much cavalry came and tore up the tracks again
In the winter of '65, we were hungry, just barely alive
I took the train to Richmond that fell
It was a time I remember, oh, so well

The night they drove old Dixie down
And all the bells were ringin'
The night they drove old Dixie down
And all the people were singin'
They went, "Na, na, na, na, na, na, .... "

Back with my wife in Tennessee
And one day she said to me,
    "Virgil, Quick! Come see!
    There goes Robert E. Lee."
    Now I don't mind, I'm chopping wood
And I don't care if the money's no good
Just take what you need and leave the rest
But they should never have taken the very best

The night they drove old Dixie down
And all the bells were ringin'
The night they drove old Dixie down
And all the people were singin'
They went, "Na, na, na, na, na, na, ..... "

  3. ..... runs out of closet in her '60's clothes.... "hip huggers" with 3" zippers, "peasant blouse", and suade jacket with fringe.... "high stack" shoes, HUGE loop earings that hang down to shoulders.... hair completely straight down to "butt", tons of blue eyeshadow and black eyeliner!......

  4. I blame my parents for understanding most of what you're all on about - loved the Monkees, Dave Clark Five, the Hello Mudder Hello Fadder thing...I can't *really* remember of course (ahem), I was only *just* a child of the 60's :o)

Posted 2 years ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #

  5. ... and of course, the "hip hugger" were bell bottoms that we had cut up the seams and sewn in strips of "psycodelic" print fabric in .... LOL

  6. ... love Virgil Cain!...... one of the first songs I remember listening to getting ready for school, with the radio my dad got me for my room!... I was a "tween" then...

  7. *Puts on mini-mini-skirt, white go-go boots, a "fall" (remember those - sort of a wig so you'd have long hair), picks up the microphone and croons.....*

How do you do what you do to me, I wish I knew
If I knew how you do it to me, I'd do it to you

How do you do what you do to me, I'm feeling blue
Wish I knew how you do it to me, but I haven't a clue

You give me a feeling in my heart, like an arrow passin' through it
'spose that you think you're very smart
But won't you tell me how do you do it

How do you do what you do to me, if I only knew
Then perhaps you'd fall for me like I fell for you

  11. ... well, I was born in the "late" '50s, so in the later "60's, I was in 7th, 8th, 9th grade.... a younger teenager.... we "imitated" all the high school and college kids, so we actually were much more "forward" thinking than some in the early '60s..... our music was much more psycodelic, and such... so were our clothes!.... the 60's may have started in the "poodle skirts", but we ended in tye die and hip huggers.....

.. and you're right KH, who has time to cook dinner when we're "stuck in the 60's"!..... LOL

  14. I had a HUGE crush on Gordon, of Peter & Gordon! Saw them in concert and had a FRONT ROW seat! (Dad worked on a newspaper and got free tickets). Scream...swoon...

Posted 2 years ago by rainingwolf #

  15. ... I had dreadfully "straight" hair!.... luckily in the late '60s, that was IN style.... but my friends that had wavy or curly hair used to put it in a pony tail on the top of their heads, then "roll" it on those big orange juice cans.... (it was less hard on their hair than ironing it!)..... me - I looked like "Lori Partridge".... straight hair, down to butt, parted in the middle!... LOL... and my figure was like "Twiggy".... I had NONE!

  16. ... '60's bands I've seen in concert...

    Carole King
    Rolling Stones

    Chicago

    wish there were more!

  21. I just read this thread, what a hoot. I'm afraid I was pretty young in the 60's so I don't remember all that much, but I really do love the music from that era. This is kind of funny: the first song on the radio that I can remember really loving (in a run-to-the-radio, crank-it-up way) was "Nights In White Satin". Years later, when I looked at the label, I realized that it was released in the 60's. That caused me a lot of confusion - I was pretty sure that I didn't have my own radio when I was, say, 5 years old. Later on I figured it out; the song was re-released in the early '70s. That must be when I heard it and fell in love with it. To this day, my favorite music (aside from Classical) is from the '60's/early '70s.

  24. Wait a minute.... I STILL iron my hair!!!!

Life goes on day after day
    Hearts torn in every way

    So ferry 'cross the Mersey
'Cause this land's the place I love
    And here I'll stay

    People they rush everywhere
Each with their own secret care

    So ferry 'cross the Mersey
    And always take me there
    The place I love

    People around every corner
They seem to smile and say
We don't care what your name is boy
    We'll never turn you away

    So I'll continue to say
Here's where I always will stay

    So ferry 'cross the Mersey
'Cause this land's the place I love
    And here I'll stay

Life goes on day after day
    Hearts torn in every way

    So ferry 'cross the Mersey
'Cause this land's the place I love
    And here I'll stay
    Here I'll stay
    Here I'll stay

This land's the place we love
    Ferry 'cross the Mersey
'Cause this land is the place we love
    So ferry 'cross the Mersey
    So ferry 'cross the Mersey
'Cause this land's the place I love
    And here I'll stay yeah

  25. I Got You Babe -- Sonny & Cher

They say we're young and we don't know
We won't find out until we're grown
Well I don't know if all that's true
'Cause you got me, and baby I got you

    Babe
    I got you babe
    I got you babe

They say our love won't pay the rent
    Before it's earned,
    Our money's all been spent
    I guess that's so, we don't have a pot
    But at least I'm sure
Of all the things we got

    Babe
    I got you babe
    I got you babe

I got flowers in the spring
I got you to wear my ring
    And when I'm sad, you're a clown
And if I get scared, you're always around

Don't let them say your hair's too long
    'Cause I don't care,
With you I can't go wrong
Then put your little hand in mine
There ain't no hill or mountain
    We can't climb

    Babe
    I got you babe
    I got you babe

I got you to hold my hand
    I got you to understand
I got you to walk with me
I got you to talk with me
I got you to kiss goodnight
I got you to hold me tight
    I got you, I won't let go
I got you to love me so
    I got you babe
    I got you babe
    I got you babe
    I got you babe

  26. Aaaaaagh!! That song is horrible. No wait, "The Beat Goes On" is much worse.

  27. Aww - remember those awful outfits that Cher wore? She made them herself. And now just look at what she has become - a role model for drag queens!

  28. Does anyone remember The Archies??? Sugar Sugar, Jingle Jangle? I was a little girl then and had glowing striped polyester dresses with glowing pink and charteuse fishnets. All I wanted was pierced ears. Honey West was my favorite show and she had those two beautiful kitties! That was a terrific video MCM.

  29. OMG! I was TOO YOUNG to remember the 60's but I do remember the music probably because it took so long to make it to our distant shores. Thanks NNGM for explaining why I remember 'Nights in White Satin' so well.
OMG, "House of the rising Sun", I love love love that song, Played my old 45rpm record over and over until my Mum screamed at me.(mission accomplished he he) I even have the sheet music to lots of these songs.
What a laugh t reading this thread has been. I've had to print off the lyrics to several songs for Mr MS particularly the Hello Muddah. . . song.
Must confess, the speakers are turned up loud and I'm singing along with grerat passion and little expertise but having a great time. Shadz is cowering! OK, I was only a wee tot in the 60's I must confess.
