If you were around on the end of the nightshift or in the cafe earlier on, you'll know I was very worried about Bones this morning.
For those of you who don't know, Bones is my Mum's cat, who lives with us since Mum was very ill a couple of years back. She now lives in a residential home, and Bones has stayed with us. He's 20 now, very tottery and frail. Well this lunchtime he tried to use his tray (semi successfully but easy to clean up)but after all his straining his back legs went very weak and wobbly.
Well, I called into the vets on my way to pick up Mum for some medical appointments, and he's advised me to up the dosage of his feline laxative, as it may well have been just the strainign that made him lose control of his legs. But - we are in the final stage now, it could be weeks, but it's unlikely to be months. Mum at the moment is quite stoical about it, but I know it will hit her very hard.
Now a quick update on Mum, which has me more than a little alarmed. One of her appointments this afternoon was at the opticians, and on examining the back of her eyes, noticed that she's had a small bleed behind her right eye. He asked if there's a family history of strokes, which there isn't, except her father did suffer from several TIA's (I can't spell the actual name!). And then I learn that her INR count (she's on warfarin) measured just yesterday had dipped down a bit (the lower the count, the higher the risk of a clot - and clots can cause strokes). The upshot of all this is a further appointment with the optician next week for some more tests on her eye pressure (which is also up) and then he'll write to her doctor - who we have an appointment with in 3 weeks time.
And finally a quick update on me! - anyone remember me going on about hot flushes? Well, I got the results of my blood tests today, and hurrah! - my hormone levels are perfectly normal, so no early menopause for me! :o) The source of the hot flushes is now most likely all this nerve trouble in my neck - and there have been less of them since I started taking the neural pain blockers. MRI scan in 9 days!
Phew! What a long post. Sorry, hope I've not bored anyone to sleep!
