My mom's cat sits on her lap and happily lets her cut away at both front and back. So today I bought some clippers and am going to try it. Anyone have any personal tips for success?

Cutting Cat Claws?

I've seen cats who sit still and let a single person cut their claws, but I've never owned one. We do it in tandem - hubby holds the cat and I clip the nails. And, always always always, lots of treats afterward.

I can cut one of my four alone (sweet Luke) but for the rest I hold and my daughter clips. BE SURE to avoid the quick of the nail - the pink part inside! That is full of nerves and capillaries and will bleed and hurt kitty if you nick it. Better to be safe and have to clip again sooner than to cut too short and injure...

Thanks for all the comments! Well, I successfully got Ally's nails clipped. I've not tried Lucy yet. Do you do the hind paws to?

I can clip Sylvester's paws (he starts to squirm when I do the hind paws which I don't always do them as they don't grow much) but with Mia it is a major ordeal. I have to use a pillow case and wrap her in it to get them done. I usually only do her front paws since that is about all she tolerates.

Not needed as often-I find they only need it every 3rd time or so. I've never had a cat that I could do anything to alone!
