  1. ok, I posted a salmon burger recipe the other day and Huddy's Mama was disappointed in me. We all know that it's just as bad to have people "disappointed" with you as be mad at you. Remember as a kid when your parents were "disappointed" in you? ;)

This all started cause I had seen part of a BURGER special on the Food Network. They went to this one place (this is where you come in HM) that has a burger made from....the same cut as the ribeye! Aged prime rib, which they use for a couple things. It's for the "purist" and the "beefaholic". Only has some carmelized onions on it and it's on a Brioche bun....(insert drooling here).

Soooooo....it's at a place in Greenwich Village called Minetta Tavern. It's the Black Label Burger. It looked fabulous and I want to know has anyone in the NY area ever had it? or been there? and should I book a flight to NY just to go have it? I'm guessing it's expensive, but DANG it looked yummy!

  2. I've never had it. But maybe I'll go to NY just to have one. Rib-eyes are my favorite steaks EVER. And I wasn't disappointed in YOU, just disappointed in the fact that they'd make a burger out of a fish! lol

  3. Hee! Actually, when I was a kid, my mom made salmon patties cause they were cheap but we never called them burgers. Meat is only for burgers. and rib eyes are my fav steaks too! Lots of flavor.

  4. I haven't been there, but maybe hubby and I should try it. I did find the menu online; the Black Label Burger is $26. Ummm, maybe I need to think twice...

Posted 9 months ago by Kilroy #

  5. I saw that it was $26 too, Kilroy. And all the reviews say it's worth every cent, but not to ruin it with cheese. I dunno about that - I can't eat a burger without cheese on it - but then again I don't eat cheese on my ribeyes - lol. $26 isn't too bad. The burger I eat for lunch is $12.

My mom used to make salmon patties too, Linda. Yuck. *insert Mr. Yuck face here*

  6. No don't think Kilroy...just go and try it! and then give us a review...I'll pitch in! :D

  7. I'll pitch in too!!!

  8. Mmmmmmmm, burger!!!!!
I like salmon patties, too, though! I do it the easy way - buy a 12 pack of frozen patties at Costco! :)

Posted 9 months ago by GreatDane #

  9. I love Costco - for their Hebrew National hot dogs and a drink for cheap!!

  10. Our HEB here had fresh shrimp patties in the seafood department (don't gag, HM). They were shaped like hamburger patties and were meant to be grilled and then put whatever you wanted on them. Well, we like shrimp a lot but there are no words to describe how incredibly nasty they tasted. I took one bite and the rest went in the trash. The texture was just yucky!

But actually, the salmon burgers sounded good to me, except I would use fresh salmon, I think.

  11. *gagging* :)

  12. I remember salmon patties from when I was a kid... could only eat them smothered it ketchup. ANd I'll take filet mignon any day of the week.

  13. I'll bet you eat your steak rare, 2P.

Posted 9 months ago by HuddysMama #

  14. RARE??? *gagging here* Must be well done!

    Posted 9 months ago by mollycat71 #

  15. Sorry, guys, but a steak is no longer a steak unless it's cooked medium rare :)

If you're gonna ruin the thing by charring it, you might as well start out with a cheap cut of meat. . .

*chanting medium rare, medium rare, medium rare. . .*

  16. Not at all, FH. A ribeye is wonderful well done because of all the marbling, which creates flavor. This is the only steak I will eat because well done-ing most any other steak is a mistake unless you have somebody in the kitchen who really knows what they're doing (cue: The Fink). He makes a wonderful well done NY Strip.

I refuse to consume anything remotely bloody, unless it's a bloody mary of course.

  17. OK, now you're making me hungry--and a definate THUMBS UP for the medium rare! Filet Mignon is great, but I also like a really good Ribeye--the best steak I think. However, the salmon burger did sound very good. Or salmon cake, if you prefer.

  18. Prime rib is sounding awfully good right now. . . ;)

  19. This whole thread has me salivating BIG TIME!!! Time to go see what I have on hand for dinner ;o)

  20. Won't eat prime rib. Once left a hoity toity Christmas party where they were serving prime rib to duck out to L.A. and get Fatburgers instead. :)

Posted 9 months ago by HuddysMama #

  21. Why won't you eat prime rib, HM? It seems like it would be nice and tender even if it's cooked well done. Just curious :)

Posted 9 months ago by FondaHonda #

  22. I made awesome ribeyes on Saturday, HM. I made a marinade of red wine, worschestershire sauce, soy sauce, garlic and a bit of brown sugar. I only let them marinate for an hour. Dried them off, salt and peppered and they were good to go! They got a nice crust on them at the grill marks and were melt in your mouth tender!

  23. ICK! Prime rib is always "bleeding" whenever I have been served it! If I want something bleeding, I will go take a bite out of a cow in a field!

    Posted 9 months ago by mollycat71 #

  24. Because it's always pink and bloody, FH. KYKAT why didn't you send me any?? *cries in corner*

    LMAO @ MC.

Posted 9 months ago by HuddysMama #

  25. MC, Prime Rib is done like a roast in the oven and Ribeyes are grilled. Any good restaurant should be able to serve either the way you want it though. Personally, I go for medium rare, but everyone has their own taste in these matters.

    Posted 9 months ago by KYKAT 12 23 #

  26. Oh, gosh - we adore prime rib! And (usually) mine come out really nicely done (medium rare!). With some Yorkshire pudding.... yummy! Oh, and horseradish sauce.

Posted 9 months ago by WillowandWindismom #

  27. HM, Didn't you get the care package of Ribeye and baked potato through the wormhole? Ok who snagged HM's Ribeye?

    Posted 9 months ago by KYKAT 12 23 #

  28. I made this Korean marinated steak last week and it was so good! The meat was fork tender and the leftovers were awesome fried with rice:

WWM--do you all have a Saltgrass restaurant there? They have a wonderful prime rib (and, yes, the horseradish sauce is a must!)

Posted 9 months ago by FondaHonda #

  29. Musta been Rocky!!!!

He actually sat up last night and BEGGED for spaghetti. None of my kitties have ever sat up and begged before. I was laughing so loud I'm sure you guys all heard me. And no, I didn't give him any.

When I worked on the other side of town Saltgrass was my lunch destination 3 times a week.

Posted 9 months ago by HuddysMama #

  30. FH, this is Midland! A Saltgrass? Sadly, no but I remember it from Houston. Now, if you were to ask me if we have a DQ, a Jumburrito, a Taco Bell, a Taco Villa.........
