  1. I took in a kitten that was born in our yard 10 days ago. He was probably 4-5 weeks old. He adjusted really quickly to being a pet as opposed to being feral. When I took him in he would not eat any cat food. I bought step 2 replacement food and he ate that just fine. Over the last 10 days I've progressed him to eating canned kitten food. He's also eaten dry kitten food if it is mixed into the canned food in small amounts. He treats dry food as some kind of foreign object if it's given to him on its own. Any suggestions for helping him to graduate to just dry food?

  2. Wet food is way better for cats so i'd say don't even try switch to dry food. Dry food can lead to so many health problems...wet food is much healthier for a cat.

I'd say stick to wet food, your lucky he will eat it :D

  3. He's still a little young to eat dry food. Make sure that it's soft enough for him to eat by continuing to mix it with the wet. But, don't leave moistened dry food out; it can go bad.

If you feed him the right amount of wet food, split between morning and evening, for his weight and age, he should be fine. Give him kitten replacement milk in a shallow dish as well, because five weeks is a little early to be completely weaned. If you leave a little dry kitten food in a saucer all the time, he'll eat a bit of it if he gets hungry between meals.

Can we see pictures of the baby?

  5. Perhaps you could add some meat broth into his food to soften it. Then bit by bit add less broth (if he likes the broth and dry mix) until he is used to the dry food. Just an idea. Good luck and bless you for taking in the wee kitty.

  6. I have to agree with FF50..if he likes the wet food, keep him on it... if you want to "suplement" with dry, you can try mixing it as said above, but long term, they DO need the wet!.... I'm battling a "kibble addict" right now, and I'm having a tough time of it!....

  7. LauraD, how's the baby today?

You can post a picture by going to the top of the page, clicking on View Your Profile and uploading a picture there. Many of us also have Catster pages which allow for more pictures. When you put your cursor over a picture and click, you'll go to the Catster page for that cat (if it exists).
