  1. Hey, TDKers - just wanted to let you know that I will be offline for about a week, I think, as I take my first step toward bcoming the middle-aged Jamie Sommers (The Bionic Woman). I am getting my brand new hip on Wednesday, and am not sure what kind of mobility I will have, which may prevent me from accessing my computer - I can't use a laptop for vision reasons... Think good thoughts for me, please!

  2. Good Luck Jamie! You will be able to run and jump like The Bionic Woman in no time! I can tell from being in therapy my whole career, you will be down (but not out) of the fight for a little while. No reason to not be able to access your computer tho! (((NCM)))

  3. Prayers and positive thoughts for everything to go well. Do you have someone looking after you? Maybe they could send a line that you're ok or something so we don't worry about you. [[[[NC]]]]]

  7. White light and best wishes for a speedy recovery. It will hurt a lot at first but you will be so happy you did it in a month or so. Don't skimp on the physical therapy; it makes a huge difference. And make sure you have plenty of ice packs; they also make a huge difference.

  9. Jamie,
Best wishes and quick healing. You are going to be so happy with your new hip. I don't know if you have ever had any "ortho" surgery but as a person who has had many surgeries, you will be fine! The first day or so is not much fun but really not so awful. The BEST thing is that you will no longer be "broken". It is so cool. Rehab is a cinch, just be sure that you do everything the therapist tells you to. You will come back stronger than you ever imagined. Surgery is a bit frightening but the technology is so advanced and the docs are technical wizards these days! I will hold good thoughts for you and include you in my prayers. No worries! The boys and I send purrs, hugs, kisses and of course the famous TDK healing white light. Have a good night's sleep.

  10. Jamie (song in head) the rehabilitation is a bit on the painful side at first. Please feel the strength of friends here to see you through the worst part. Once through those first few days all will start to get better. What a wonder it will be to not walk and move in such pain! Know that you are in my prayers. Is there anyway that someone can post and let us know that you are through the surgery? I know that is terribly selfish, but I know that everyone will worry. Prayers of strength of peace to you Jamie.

  11. Best wishes and sending healing energy. My hubby had his hip replaced in his mid-40s due to arthritis compounded (literally) by many years of tae kwon do. He was up and around in no time and I'm sure you will be the same. He was astounded after the operation by the total lack of pain - after all those years of pain from the hip to no pain at all.

  12. I agree, my amazement was at the total lack of pain in my hip now. I'm so glad I had it done. Was also amused that I had to be taught how to climb stairs again. I remember standing there trying to remember what to do! Fortunately, there was a therapist on each side. Good luck!

  18. Good luck! Hope you recover fast and have no more pain. I've always wondered if you'll beep going through metal detectors now? I know it's a weird question.

  19. Dear TDK family - Thanks so much for your kind thoughts and flow of positve energy. I am sooooo looking forward to getting rid of the pain in my hip... My surgeon is apparently aggressive in terms of post-surg therapy (I have also been doing pre-surg work) and my PT said I will see him the afternoon of the op and they will be getting me out of bed that day! My 17 y/o daughter will be my main support, with a great group of neighbors and friends to fill in the gaps. I will get Liz to post a note here after I get back to my room... She never goes anywhere without her laptop, and the hospital has WiFi. Thanks for all the encouragement from those of you with personal/professional experience of this - I have never had major surgery, and certainly never any ortho before, so it is really terra incognita. But I love adventures, and I understand you get some pretty good drugs while in the hospital. Thanks for the reminder about the ice packs/frozen veg -- I had forgotten to stock up, but will this afternoon.

  26. NC I am thanking Liz in advance! I just want you to know last night when I went to sleep I still had that song, was it a song or a noise, that was played every time Jamie moved! I have such a chuckle over that--I was a fan--oh to be that fast and strong! Have a restful day today and I look forward to hearing you say you are pain free!

  28. SM - I know what you mean... that shushy, sproingy sound, with lots of reverb in it... That will be me, bounding from place to place (after several weeks of PT , of course!)
