  1. Well TDK family, I made a big mistake. It's a big of a long story....so here goes! I was awakened at 4:00 am Friday morning with a terrible toothache. I figured that I had clenched my teeth during the night (due to a terrible day at work on Thursday). I have dental implants and if you "clench" it can cause stress on my few remaining lower teeth. I took some ibuprophen and went to work. The toothache just got worse during the day. I decided to tough it out and not be a crybaby about it. I had a terrible weekend with tooth pain. I think that having a toothache is the worst. Anyway, today was no better and my student worker bullied me in to calling my dentist. I went at 4 and found out that my implants are fine. The bad part is that I have a huge abcess under either 1,2 or 3 teeth. They can't exactly tell because the infection is surrounding all of them. Yikes! No wonder the pain is so bad. I have a fever, a mouth that is unbearably painful and a handful of antibiotics and pain meds. So far the pain meds are not working so well. I just hope that the antibiotics are doing the job. The dentist told me that if the pain meds don't do the trick to give him a call in the morning. Believe me I will be calling him!! This is horrible timing. Jason and I are throwing Abbey a 30th birthday party on Sunday. I am providing all the food and I don't feel well. Ugh! If you have a moment send a good thought my way. I could really use it. My jaw is killing me right now and I have to wait another 1 1/2 hours before I can take another pill!!! The boys are being so attentive. I could do with out the head bonks under my chin but they are so sweet. No work tomorrow for me. As Charlie Brown used to say.. "Argh"

  2. Sending prayers and healing white light that your pain meds kick in and your antibiotics due the trick. Gentle headbonks from Mia and Sylvester. Hugs from me.

  3. Puddytat that is wicked pain! I am glad you are on antibiotics, and I pray that by morning they will be kicking in a little better. As for the pain call the dentist--get on something more potent. There is no use being in pain, especially with Abbey's birthday looming so near. Take care my friend and know that prayers of healing and peace are on their way to you!

  4. Oh, poor Puddytat, that sounds soooooo painful. Did the dentist give you any other suggestions like gargling with salt water, cold or hot compresses, or any of the other home remedies? They can't hurt and may help. Can he drain it?

If I were in that much pain, I would probably cheat a little bit with the pain pills, at least so I could get some sleep. Taking them 45 minutes early just once probably won't hurt as long as you aren't driving or using a chainsaw.

  5. CBM, thanks for the thoughts! I am using icepacks from the freezer. It helps a bit. I guess I better put the chain saw away! I am going to take the pain meds at midnight. A full hour early. I have never had pain like this. How in the world do folks deal with this???

Posted 2 years ago by Puddytat #

  6. Ouch! Hope the midnite dose helps! Good luck!

  7. Oh my Puddytat, I sure hope you feel relief from your pain very, very soon. My prayers are with you. (((PUDDYTAT)))

  8. It's almost midnight. Thank goodness!!! Thanks for your wonderful comments. Relief would be wonderful! I was sitting here thinking.... which is worse, spinal surgery or toothache? TOOTHACHE!

Posted 2 years ago by Puddytat #

  9. I dunno Puddytat,I had spinal surgery. I think the most pain is that that you are undergoing at the time. Prayers and gentle hugs that the antibiotics kick in and the pain meds work right away.
Toothache or Jaw pain that is unrelenting should never be ignored(Puts on nurse WWM 's cap 'cause I ran over mine in the driveway when I didn't have to wear it anymore.....long story) Jaw pain can be a sign of cardiac distress too.
    <off soap box>
    gentle hugs for now.

  10. Puddytat,
When I got an infection like that the one thing that helped was to sip ice water and hold it on the gums around the bad teeth. It really worked wonders for relieving the pain.

I will say a prayer for you - that the infection clears up quickly and the pain goes away.

  11. Well, it's 3:00 am and no relief. I an hardly wait for the dentist office to open in the morning. I'm going to tell him that I need something different for pain. The current prescription is not working at all. I feel like my jaw is going to explode. This is awful and it is going to be a very long night. If any one is up out there please say a quick prayer for me. I could certainly use some TDK magic.

  12. What I'm about to suggest isn't something that you would want to do very often, but it might give you a little relief right now.

Dissolve a couple of aspirin in a glass of warm water and gargle with the solution. Aspirin has some anesthesia properties and might dull the pain from the outer gum in. I don't think Tylenol or other pain meds will work.

This is a fairly acidic solution so don't do it repeatedly. And don't swallow it because you don't want the aspirin to mix with your other meds. It's just a suggestion to get you through the night.

If the pain gets too intense, go to the E.R. Take your prescription bottles with you. The stress from unrelieved pain can cause other medical problems. If you have high blood pressure or any type of heart problems, extreme pain can exacerbate those conditions. That is a good enough reason to go to the E.R.

  13. Something to look forward too! I am awaiting an implant so I know what to avoid! Hang in there friend, you will get better. Being a dentist's daughter I can tell you the antibiotics will make you feel lots better soon and definitely ask for some good pain meds so you can rest to let the teeth heal. Prayers and white lite your way!

  14. (((Puddytat))) So sorry for the pain. I hope they can give you something good. I know for me, Lortab does nothing...NOTHING! Is that what they have you on? Sending painfree prayers in your direction.

  19. Sending Prayers & lots of Healing Light to you Puddytat. I agree w/you...toothache (next to earache) is the worst possible pain. I hope the meds start kicking in & doing their job soon. I sure envy you being able to go to the dentist. I must endure such pain from time to time because of no ins.

  20. Just got off the phone w/ PT... she talked to the doc, and they've got her doubled up on pain meds. She's a lot more comfy right now (and quite a bit more entertaining than usual!). I'm hoping she gets better soon... I love you Mama!!!

Posted 2 years ago by blackandwhitekittymama #

  21. LOL @ PT! More "entertaining" than usual, I bet that is a hoot! I know what that is like!

    Posted 2 years ago by mollycat71 #

  22. Oh, PT - that is so miserable. Hoping that by now the dentist has been able to do something to offer you some relief.

  24. Sending you prayers and white light for your jaw. Would offer head bonks from kitties, but probably would make the situation worse. Hoping the meds and antibiotics grab on to that pain and ease it up soon.

  25. PT, I hope you are feeling all warm and fuzzy now and that the pain has recided (sp).
Here are sandpaper kisses since headbonks aren't a good thing today for you.

  26. Ouch, PT. Feel better soon.

  27. Dear PT,
I am so sorry you are in so much pain. When I was having terrible sinus pain my doctor told me that for a short period of time I could mix a cocktail of pain killers. She said I could take a maximum dose every 4 hours of paracetemol+ibuprofen+codeine. She said not to do it for more than 24 hours and to make sure that each drug was "pure" ie the paracetemol didn't already have any codeine etc mixed in with it. It was effective!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. Owie ! Hope you are feeing better soon!

  29. Thanks so much for all the good thoughts. I have doubled up on the meds and it seems to be working. I am still unable to touch the teeth but hopefully the antibiotics are doing their job. I beg to differ with BWKM...I am always entertaining!!! The boys are taking good care of me, if you count sleeping in the sun and stretching taking good care. Love you folks. Since I had no sleep last night, I think I will take a little nap. I will check in with you later.
