  1. My seven year old spayed INDOOR female cat has been having noisy soft stools for the last several days. She has had all her shots and she is actly normally other than this. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? Am unemployed so taking her to the vet is out of the question unfortunately. I may be able to later this month if the problem hasn't stopped. Any ideas would be welcome. Thank you all.

  3. A change in food is the #1 reason for an unhappy kitty tummy. But so is having eaten something they shouldn't have (string, plants, plastic, etc). And just plain old stress or a little cold will do it as well. There could be a serious underlying medical problem like cancer, kidney problems, or food allergies although she would probably be exhibiting additional symptoms.

Make sure she has plenty of water available since dehydration can be a problem - more so in kittens but it can happen in older cats as well. If she's not inclined to drink water, try letting a bathroom faucet drip a little. Sometimes they start playing with the water and then end up licking it off their paws.

If it doesn't clear up in a day or two, you should call the vet. If you explain that you have to pay a little (very little) now and pay the rest over a few months, they might be willing to see her now. Most vets require payment in full at the time of service, but they also understand the current economy and may be willing to work with you if you have had a good relationship with them in the past.
